I Just Cheated!

Ok....in a moment of weakness I just cheated by eating a bowl of Kashi Cinna.Raisin Crunch!!! :( I have been on this Candida diet for 6 days and was going to puke if I didn't eat something other than meat, veggies or nuts!!!

My headaches and facial pain have subsided for 3 days now but the engery level is horrible still. I am taking Probotics 3 times daily and a garlic pill to help assist in the attack of the Candida.

Has anybody been on this diet and cheated? What side effects did you encounter? Am I doomed to fail again? Will this set me back? Does this start me from step one? Have I ruined all my hard work (all 6 days worth..not much I know). If you can't notice, I am feeling HORRIBLE AND GUILTY!! I am planning to resume the diet after this one lapse....

Here is a Candida Diet Forum. Perhaps your question would be more likely to be addressed here. :)

If your concern is Celiac or a gluten intolerance, I don't believe that Kashi Cinnamon Crunch is gluten free.

Hope you feel better soon.

I did the Candida before and yes I did cheat as well. I KNOW exactly how you feel and I KNOW exactly how hard it is. For me, I was sick after I cheated, but it didn`t send me back to step one. I think you`ll be fine, just keep doing what you`ve started. Our body doesn`t get better in a day, and also it won`t be back in the same old state as it was in a day either. So, GET SOME COURAGE, forgive yourself and keep on keeping on....(I am struggling with the SCD right now, and that1s the hardest diet I`ve ever done. Maybe you wanna try it for a few days then go back to the Candida and you will feel lucky. :-) BTW, the SCD is a GREAT and simple diet, but very hard to be disciplined since I have just started. So again, I DO understand you!!!

I would also reccomend you taking flex seeds (ground, 2 tbps daily), or flex seed oil. Also, if you take Olivir (Olive extract) and Capryl that is a yeast killer!!! Seriously, I couldn`t believe it !Take it about 30 minutes before meals, about 3-4 times a day, and after you ate food take the probiotic. That way they won`t interfere. Maybe you want to think about taking some vitamins as well. I don`t mean to tell you what to do, but this is what I was told and helped me SO MUCH!!! I also had to stop birth control pills because that was triggering my sympthomes. For me, the first week or 2 was terrible. Yeah, no energy whatsoever. But then it slowly started to come back. I also worked out which made me feel so much better. Give yourself some time to adjust, and sleep as much as you can in the first week or two(this meant no cravings and temptations to me, and peace of mind....)

I wish you all the luck and discipline there is, to overcome your Candida. You can do it!!!

(note: the more you worry the worse it is....forget the cheating and go on like nothing happened. I've cheated - by mistake- 10 or more times and then in 1-2 days things were good again. ). If you do have a serious candida overgrowth don't eat grains, yoghurt, nuts and cottage cheese that most of the on-line candida diets suggest. check the link I've posted and you will find out what foods are really allowed and what not + it has extremely clear information and excellent moderators + recipes + best supplements + 4.500 members .

Please dont' think that I am in any way advertising anything. I just feel that the guy who told me to look at this site actually saved my life + saved me lots of money (that I was spending on useless therapies)

The problem with the "candida diet" is that it's very restrictive. No processed foods, no sugar, very little fruit, very little starch, no yeasty/moldy foods (mushrooms, vinegar, peanut butter, etc...), and no grains. Not just no gluten... no grains at all. Whew!! You need to have some serious motivation to stick with it.

What is your motivation?

Over the last nine months I've changed my diet a lot. First I stopped eating dairy. Not easy, but I had a great motivation... being able breastfeed my son, who has a severe intolerance to casein. Mistakes meant more colic, terrible eczema, and a lack of sleep :( And truthfully... I did make some mistakes in the beginning, but I got used to it.

Four months later I took gluten out of my diet. Again... I had great motivation. I had been suffering with painful abdominal cramps, joint pain, and constipation for about six months. I noticed a major difference within 48 hours after I stopped eating gluten. WOW. I never want to go back to that again! I've never intentionally cheated, but I have become more sensitive to gluten... now I get a really itchy rash when I'm cross-contaminated.

Two months after I stopped eating gluten, I stopped eating corn. I tried this to see if it would help my son (which it did), but I was surprised to find that it helped me too. This is NOT an easy intolerance to adjust to... corn is in about 90% of processed foods. It's also not one of the "major allergens," so you have to be a real detective about food labels.

As long as I don't eat gluten, corn, or dairy I feel great! No bloating, no gas, no pain. I haven't felt this good since I was a teenager. This is my motivation.

I thought about trying the candida diet too. The only processed food I'm still eating on a regular basis is chocolate. And you know what... I realized that if I was still feeling bad I could give up chocolate. I have no shortage of willpower :) But I LIKE dark chocolate. As long as I'm eating a little bit each day, I don't feel deprived... and I don't feel tempted to cheat on the other parts of my diet that are SO important.

If you have celiac disease, then it's very important to be strict about gluten. Cut it out of your diet 100%. As far as the other foods go... this is a MAJOR lifestyle change. If you go slow and do it right you can probably stick with it for a long time. IMO, if you try to change too much at once, all you'll get is disappointment. :(

      Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

      Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

      That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

      I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

      Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
