Bloodwork Results Question. Igg Positive, Is It Real?

I was wondering if any of you could help me with a question I have about my bloodwork. I was tested for the whole celiac panel. I got the Antigiladin IgA(0.43 Negative on scale of o-0.90), Antigiladin IgG (1.40 POSITIVE on scale of 0-0.90), TRAnsglutaminase IgG (4.0 Negative on scale of 0-19.9), Transglutaminase IgA (8.6 Negative on scale of 0-19.9) and IgA with a number score of 298 with a scale range of 68-378mg/dl being "normal".

So, since I only got one single positive, could it be a false positive? Does it seem likely? Would you recommend getting the gut biopsy done? Lastly, if so, how much did it cost those of you who don't have the best health insurance (The gut biopsy)?

Sure appreciate any input. I have hardly any intestinal symptoms. Mine are primarily neurological and skin issues.

My sincere thanks to all of you!! Struggling with all of my sypmtoms and finding out what is wrong with me.

i am sorry you are suffering:( i am only 13 and i dont really know any of the other stuff in your question but if you are hesitant to do the biopsy it isnt that bad. trust me, i was nervous but it was nothing:) hope this helps:) -livie

I am kind of in the same boat. My only positive was reticulin anitbody but the lab result did not say if it was reticulin IgA or IgG. Unfortunately I asked specifically for a total IgA and somehow it got left out so I do not know yet if I am IgA deficient.

I am hoping someone responds to this question as I too am curious to know the answer. From what I have read the IgG is less specific and you would expect to only have a significant difference between the two if you were IgA deficient which it appears you are not. This is all still very new to me and I am still reading and learning.

I too was wondering if I should proceed with the biopsy and the genetic testing (if it's covered) or just try the gluten free diet and see what happens. For myself I do not really need the confirmation with test results, as long as I feel better I would be happy but I have 3 kids and I am trying to decide if my getting a firm diagnosis will make things easier with them in terms of diagnosis and the school etc.

It's still all so confusing at times. I think, regardless of test results I am going gluten free with 2 of my kids who are showing symptoms but would hate it if doing so somehow made getting a firm diagnosis harder. If they do better there is no way they are going back on gluten just to get some test result.

The ingredients are listed as follows: Chicken, Water, Rice Flour, Tapioca Starch, Tamari Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Sugar, Corn Starch), Contains 2% or less of: Canola and/or Sunflower Oil, Ginger, Scallions, Brown Sugar, Potato Starch, Rice Wine (Rice, Water, Salt), Chicken Soup Base (Chicken Meat with Natural Juices, Salt, Sugar, Yeast Extract, Chicken Fat, Onion, Potato Flour, Turmeric, Spice Extractives), Konjac Flour, Xanthan Gum, Chicken Powder, Salt, Black Pepper, Sesame Oil, Gelatin I have underlined the ingredients which could contain hidden sources of gluten. Xanthan Gum wouldn't contain gluten but it is a polysaccharide that is a common ingredient in prepackaged gluten free foods and poses digestive difficulties for many people. The same might be said for Konjac flour.  It is also possible that the product exceeds the specs for the FDA criteria of "gluten free" whose upper limit is 20 ppm of gluten. We are seeing this more often lately and many are calling for stricter sampling standards in the gluten free food industry such that testing is done more often.

      I recently ate a package of feel good brand gluten-free chicken soup dumplings. Immediately after eating them, my stomach became extremely extremely bloated and gassy and it's two days later now and I'm still extremely uncomfortable. They say there's gluten-free and there doesn't appear to be anything in the ingredients that I think would be the problem. Has anyone else eaten these and had this experience?

      Great tips, Deb. Thanks.  What a pity that they no longer mark items as gluten-free. And it is even more of a shame that you must bring protein bars instead of the crew helping you with your needs. Are you planning on sailing Royal again?
