Is There Monosodium Glutamate In Multivitamins?

Rate this topic

It seems like if I countinue to take multivitamins for a long period of time ( week or two) I start to notice negative symptoms, I'm about 90% sure I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate ( still in question about gluten)... is there monosodium glutamate in multivitamins? Such as Rainbow Light, One a Day

Maybe. It depends.

Glutamic acid is one of many amino acids. There are at least twenty of them. It is present in varying amounts in most proteins.

When combined with sodium (as a salt), the resulting compound is monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Monosodium glutamate in its pure form is a white crystalline powder. It is sold by the name Accent among others.

It would be unlikely that monosodium glutamate would be included in the ingredients of a multivitamin as such. But other ingredients containing glutamic acid (bound with other amino acids to form proteins) could be present.

So the monosodium glutamate in vitamins occurs during the process of the product?

Thanks
