Not Having A Good Day

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I've been gluten-free since Thursday.

I've been really carefull with everything I've eaten.

Today I am feeling pretty nauseous.

Is it just not long enough on the diet yet to expect results? Before dx I had some good days and some bad days.

Could I be replacing my normal diet with too many veggies too much too soon? Previously, I'd have a salad or veggie side dish with dinner, but that was pretty much it. Now, I'm using them as snacks on top of what I eat at dinner.

Did I accidentally eat something with gluten? I've been really carefull, but again, I only have 6 days now of experience!

Is it just my body saying, "hey, where the heck is my bread" I haven't ventured into the breads/pastas yet and I've never been a big rice eater, so I've been kind of down a food group for the last few days.

Or, did I just pick up a stomach bug of some type? I guess not everytime I get sick will it be because of gluten right?

Jennifer

It takes a while to feel better. It could be that you have glutened yourself by accident, either by cross contamination or by eating something you never would have guessed had gluten in it (i did this a lot at the start...) Give it time. If it has only been six days you're body is most likely still adjusting. Drink lots of water and hang in there! :)

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry you aren't feeling well and I can certainly relate. I have been gluten-free for 3 weeks now and it has been a roller-coaster. I felt fantastic for a few days and then was back to feeling lousy for the next few. Some have said it is gluten withdrawl ("where the heck is my bread?" symptoms). Of course, double-check all supplements/medications you are taking and clean out your kitchen to make sure you're not getting cross-contamination. Keep being diligent and checking labels and food ingredients, but also be patient while your body heals. It is so hard and this is a great place to get support from people who have been (or are) there and understand. Everyone heals at a different rate and in different ways so hang in there and don't give up, relief is on the way!

Good luck

If you don't like rice, how about potatoes? I especially like them sliced over a salad. Yum!

I've been gluten free for over 3 weeks and it has been tough, I read labels - I pay attention. But, I am still sick to my stomach... Some of that could be accidental glutenizing (love that word), some is due to increased fruit and veggie intake, and the rest is due to wheat-withdrawl...

I think that it's the nature of the beast!

My doc explained it as an adjustment period - I'd think I'd like to call it something else! My regular routines have been altered, my energy is lowered, etc.

But, there is a bright side! Things will get better for you (and for me), as long as we stick with the diet/lifestyle our bodies and minds will thank us by getting better, stronger, healthier!

Hang in there and read these boards for support!

Thanks everyone

I had some glutino crackers and Sprite and am starting to feel better. I think I need to find a gluten free version of saltines. Saltines and sprite always helped when I was a kid to settle an upset stomach.

I think it just might take some time to adjust.
