I find it hard to believe, with as popular as Starbucks is, that there is not more information about their products. I can't do Gluten, soy, or dairy. So, I am wondering what I can get there. I would obviously have to bring my own rice milk, but is the coffee ok, and are the flavored syrups ok?? Any suggestions?? Oh, how I miss Starbucks Caramel mocha cappachino.

That doesn't have any gluten info though.

I emailed them to inquire about gluten-free Starbucks products in Canada and got this response:

In regards to your inquiry, we are unable to indicate any handcrafted beverage or unpackaged food item as being "gluten-free" unless it is specifically produced and packaged to meet gluten-free requirements (such as gluten-free KIND Bars). I apologize for any inconvenience.

Ahhh... you got the typical response for CYA. I hate those! I got the same response from them regarding their choc covered espresso beans.

My mom and I drink their brewed coffee with no gluten issues. She's extremely symptomatic, I am not. She's never had a problem so far. Other than that I can't say what else is safe. Good luck!

Thanks for checking on that. I guess Starbucks is always going to be a gamble. I feel ok about the coffee, but what I am really wondering about is the Yummy syrups they use to flavor it. I looked at the bottle one day and everything seemed ok except the natural flavors. Natural flavors can mean wheat - right??

Yeah, no one wants to take responsibility for their product anymore, everything is "use at your own risk" :angry:

If they are unwilling to provide better information or do the work to ensure they have safe products, then I for one will not be giving them my business at all.

Lexi -- yes, natural flavours can be a risk. You can find out who manufactures the syrups and try contacting them directly.

There was another disucssion about Starbucks in which it was stated that all of the drinks are safe except for the mochas and anything containing chocolate chips as they contain gluten, but I was hoping the company would confirm this themselves.

I guess it's an individual choice whether or not to risk it :) I'm going to save myself $5/coffee and make it at home!
