Heliobacter Pylori

Hi all,

I found out today that I have heliobacter pylori bacteria in my stomach and a low grade yeast infection in my intestine. :o I have to be on two weeks of antibiotics and other medications. Also found out that my blood anti-gliadin and anti-transglutaminase tests are normal.( 15.9 for IgG antigliadin and 10 for ant-transglutaminase,14 for anti-gliadinIgA). Abnormal is over 20. My Doc said that its because I have been gluten free for 6 months and that she is sure they would have been above normal back then. Thats good news.

So I have the celiac gene but not full blown disease. I have gluten intolerance for now. My bone density tests and other bloodwork are normal. Yeah! :D

I think that after I take care of these infections I should be feeling better and hopefully not have the attacks that I have had. I am going to eat really clean for the next couple of weeks to support my body in fighting these infections.

So I need to stay off gluten forever or else I risk getting celiac in the future, right? Can't you still get damage to your body even if you don't show intestinal damage? There is so much conflicting information out there.

If you have been gluten-free for 6 months prior to testing that will not give accurate results. Therefore you can not determine that you do not have it now. You very well could. If your doctor said she thinks 6 months ago they would have been above normal why didn't she test you then? Yes you can still get damage even if it showed you don't have any YET. Catching it before you get damage is ideal. You should definitely stay gluten free.

She was not my doctor then. I am going to her out of pocket since my regular doc

doesn't know about gluten.

By the way, to anyone who has talken meds for heliobacter, did you have vomiting along with it? I had green diarrhea and uncontrollable vomiting this morning. I had to go home sick. :(

I had the treatment for h-pylori bacteria. I took two different antibiotics for two weeks and eight Pepto Bismol tablets per day. I had nausea all of the time. Of course, I can't stand Pepto. I also had severe diarrhea from the antibiotics. My stool was black from the Pepto.

I would say that you need to stay on a gluten-free diet to keep from damagining your intestines.

Hi Sally and all,

I had a stool test and blood test for the H. Pylori and blood test for the yeast. The yeast test was for D-Arabinitol which is metabolite produced by candida. A normal value is 1-5 and mine was 5.8. :huh: I'm going to try to take caprylic acid to suppress the yeast while I am on the antibiotics. I also am eating soy yogurt.

I ate 2 bananas and applesauce and today my diarrhea is better and I'm not vomiting. I am taking drops of licorice root too for the nausea. :P

I'm not thrilled with taking antibiotics but H. Pylori is a class one carcinogen and I don't want to get stomach cancer in the future.

I plan to take mastic gum after the antibiotics are through. It suppresses the bacteria.

      Checkouts gluten-free recipes at twww.redstaryeast.com We tried a bread machine years ago and weren’t happy with results. Bread machines have pre-set rise & bake times.  Unfortunately, the program doesn’t adjust to slight differences when measuring, relative humidity or temperature of ingredients & in kitchens.  Lots of efforts for ONE odd- sized loaf that hard to cut into useable slices.  College-aged son found best use for bread machine was as heavy duty mixer that ‘kept dust in the box.’  He would pre-measure ingredients for 2-3 loaves & use machine mix up individual batches.      Since gluten-free bread needs  to rise only once, each recipe of dough went into a loaf pan. Pans sat counter to rise—time dependent of temp in kitchen. Then, baked in oven until he, not machine, decided it was done.     Took ~10 min extra up front to measure & mix additions but adds nothing to rise & bake times.     Loaves are great for slicing (Slice extra before freezing!). One mess to clean up, saves time & energy since you need to bake  as is half as often (If  you plan to bake lots more than bread, opt for KitchenAid/ heavy duty mixer instead.  Cover with dish towel to capture dust!)     Personally, I’m sure I had as a kid since I’ve never been a fan  of bread. .  Have been wrapping corn tortillas around things for 40+ years.  Can still get a dozen 12-pks of tortillas for same or less than price as 1 load of gluten-free bread. PLUS. the tortillas have more nutrients!

      Welcome to the forum. You are lucky because in Korean food, many classic meals such as bibimbap without sauce, barbecue meats and some kinds of soups generally do not have gluten. But it is a good idea to confirm with the restaurant workers for safety reasons. Regarding certain locations, I enjoy going to places such as Plant in Seoul and Sprout in Busan. Moreover, using applications like HappyCow or TripAdvisor can assist you to discover additional choices in the regions you plan to visit. One big tip: it is good to know some important Korean sentences, for example 'I cannot eat gluten' (geulluteuneul meogeul su eopseoyo)  or 'Does this have gluten?' (igeoe neun geulluteuni deureo innayo?) because they can be very helpful. If you are considering getting a local guide, I'd suggest this one https://gowithguide.com/korea They were very helpful when I needed to find places with gluten-free food options because they provide tours tailored to your preferences.       Undiagnosed (and thus untreated) celiac disease is associated with a higher chance of miscarriage. The downside of continuing to eat gluten now is increased chance of miscarriage. The downside of stopping gluten now and having to restart later to get a clear, official diagnosis is that you might have worse symptoms eating gluten after being gluten free, but it wouldn’t affect your baby. I know which one I would choose!
