Would A Celiac Blood Panel Be A Waste?

ive been very strict on the gluten-free diet for 3 months, with 2 or 3 accidental glutenings. I am going for an endoscopy in a few weeks and it was advised that i still get the blood test. IS it possible i might still have circulating antibodies for gluten and TTG?

For some, antibody levels drop rapidly, but for others it takes a while. Single transgressions don't do much to raise antibody levels in the bloodwork. So your gluten accidents probably won't count for much. The bloodwork is better at measuring continued exposure. 3 months of a gluten-free diet is plenty of time for antibody levels to drop if you are a fast healer. If you do decide to get the bloodwork, and it turns out positive, it could help rule Celiac in. But if it is negative, it would not rule Celiac out.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

You could get the blood test keeping in mind what the last poster stated. The endo is being done to check for healing not for diagnosis right? If it is being done for diagnosis you need to get back on gluten pronto. The endo is useless for diagnosis if you are already gluten free but it will still pick up if you have other issues. Do keep in mind also that the endo like the the blood test can have false negatives.

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.
