Questions About Testing

Recommended Posts

I started a gluten-free diet on Feb. 20, even though I don't know if I have Celiac. If I decide to have a test done, will the fact that I haven't been eating gluten cause the results to be negative?

Also, I'm looking for information on tests that are available. Could someone post a link that explains them really well? Thanks!!!

Eating gluten free will mess up the results. I was told by a doctor to start the gluten free diet based on a blood test. When I went to the gastro doctor, he told me to go back to eating gluten for a month before he did the biopsy because eating gluten, otherwise, the test would not be accurate. Good luck

Some people who have started to eat gluten free, and realize they get better, and do not want to go back on gluten, order the tests by enterolab.

Of course they can not diagnose celiac, just gluten sensitivity.

They may show up positive up to a year after going gluten free.

gluten-free since may 06 after neg. biopsy symptoms went away and DH symptoms which I had since 03 got gradually better.

daughter officially diagnosed celiac and casein intolerant.

non-DQ2 or DQ8. Maybe DQ1? Updated: Yes, double DQ5

Hypothyroid since 2000, thyroxine first started to work well 06 on a low-carb and gluten-free diet

Lost 20 kg after going gluten-free and weighing 53 kg now. neg. biopsy for DH. Found out afterwards from this forum that it should have been taken during an outbreak but it was taken two weeks after. vitaminD was 57 nmol/l in may08)
