Food Diary Ideas?

I'm going to keep a food diary. It's been 5 months and I'm still on the roller coaster. I've learned to appreciate that if malabsorption goes away then my food sensitivities will worsen. So I need to really identify what they are, except that I'm just awful at that sort of thing.

Also (I'm griping here) I am so tired of being surprised by new symptoms. For about 15 years I had a handle on my symptoms, then they started to change and my health got worse. I assumed it had something to do with turning 40, but I think really the malabsorption started to have other consequences. For the last 2 years I am constantly unsure what is going on. Asthma and allergies have lessened, but they are now my key indicators that something is wrong with my gut. I gain weight incredibly easily, my skin struggles with exema, fungus, rashes, my appetite is unpredictable, I struggle with heartburn and constipation. And I still get waves of tiredness. Ahhh!

Anyway, I think it's time for me to keep a daily health log. I'm certain there's more tweaking to be done. Or at least I'll find patterns...I need a little predictability! :)

I'm always online so I'd really like an internet tool option. Does anyone have one they use and like?

thanks!

GlutenFreeManna Rising Star

It's been a while since I have used it, but I like Open Original Shared Link (Now AKA Livestrong I think)

You can input all you food and water intake as well as write notes about how you feel each day.

I haven't found one I liked yet - I ended up using Microsoft Excel and making my own real quick.

But just as a suggestion that my dietician gave me that I wouldn't have thought of on my own, keeping track of the brands you're using is REALLY useful. I've found a few brands that I couldn't use, and much later we figured out a contaminant, or a processing ingredient that they had that wasn't listed. The food itself was okay, once we tried a different brand. :-)

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.

I did reach out to them on April 4th and left a message. I will try calling again. Thank you!
