Rice Xpress (like Uncle Ben's )

I just found three flavors of Lundberg Farms Rice Xpress at my local co-op yesterday and these flavors were labeled gluten free! They are just like the Uncle Ben's quick rice product that is being advertised on tv with the little girl heating up the packet in the microwave for a minute and then it's done... (only the Uncle Ben's version contains wheat starch...)

the three flavors are

classic beef

chicken herb

sante fe grill

I bought the classic beef, heated it up in the microwave at work for a minute and dumped it on a plate... I did end up heating it another 30 seconds because our microwave at work kinda sux... but all in all, for a quick easy side dish it was pretty darn good.

Good to know! Were they in a natural/health food section or with the regular stuff?

any chance they're dairy free as well?

they would be in the natural foods section. Any store that carries Lundberg rice products "should" be able to get these in.

I don't know if they are dairy free or not... I'll see if I can find out.

I copied this from their website. They have a whole section dedicated to explaining celiac disease. That's unusual.

We have only a few products in our entire line of 75+ products that are not gluten free, or may have ingredients that could be a problem for the very sensitive:

Organic Multigrain Rice Cakes (discontinued)

Exotic Wild n Mushroom Quick Brown Pilaf (discontinued)

Italian Herb Risotto

Our other products, to the best of our knowledge based upon the most current research, are gluten-free and safe for those sensitive to the gliadin protein found in gluten.

bomb! thanks for sharing ! can't wait to try those. i've hated how uncle ben has to add good ol' hydrogenated oil to his quick cook rice. what's up with that?

and if anyone has a trader joes near them, they have their own brand of the quick rice too.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
