I just discovered 97 Lake in West Harrison, NY (Westchester County). It's FANTASTIC! I've been there twice in the last week. The entire menu is gluten free. The only difference between the regular menu and the gluten free menu is the bread items are served on and I believe the pizza. They have separate pizza ovens (the gluten pizza oven is on the bottom to avoid any possibility of crumbs falling down).

I was talking to the owner (who has celiac) and he said he wanted to make everything gluten free but his trick is that he just doesn't say on the regular menu that the wings, nachos, fries, mac n cheese, etc, etc. is gluten free because he knows then people would be turned off by it. This restaurant is a must!

Wow! Thanks for this. The menu looks so ridiculous I don't even know where to start. Considering this place is only 2 miles from our house we will be trying it right after Thanksgiving! We just never travel in that direction so I had no idea it was there.

I hope you love it as much as I do! I'm doing my best to make my way through the whole menu. LOL!

So far I've had wings, pulled pork quesadillas (didn't love these actually), onion rings, mac n' cheese, club sandwich w/ avocado and grilled cheese. Clearly I've made a few visits.

It's our next meal as soon as Thanksgiving is over! Can't wait. Looks like they have a great kids menu for our little monkey too.

We just had dinner at 97 lake. OMG.... I had a cheeseburger with onion rings. Put aside eating healthy for a night and indulge here while remaining completely gluten-free! They were also very kid friendly, the dining room was mostly kids at 5pm and our waitress was making friends with our 20 month old. The owner came by and chatted with us for a few mins. He said, and I quote "you couldn't be cross contaminated here if you tried." We'll be back as soon as I can burn off all these calories!

Jillian--in Mapquesting this, I just realized that my husband and I were right around the corner from there last month shopping at The Westchester and of course had no idea it was there! Needless to say, we plan to go back up there soon--this place sounds fantastic--thanks :)

Oh wow, you really were right around the corner Patti. The Westchester is about 5 mins. away! Well it's a great mall to go holiday shopping. Even during holiday time it doesn't tend to get unbearably crowded so that's extra incentive to come back : )

An update. The last two times I went to 97 lake, my stomach has been a complete mess the next few days. Both times I've had a cheese burger with grilled onions. I know they got the order right as the bun was obviously gluten-free. I also ate the fries. I don't know what it was and I'm very upset because, in theory, it should be so good. Maybe it's the amount of red meat and grease?

Hello, this is the owner of 97 lake. First, I am sorry you have felt poorly after eating at the restaurant. As a Celiac myself, you must know how seriously I take keeping our kitchen gluten free. Given the steps we take in the kitchen, including the fact there is NO powdered flour in the kitchen at all, I hope this is a coincidence or some other issue. The only items containing gluten in the restaurant are the buns and pizza dough - which never go in the fryer and are stored and cooked separately in the kitchen. Next time you come in, please come see me and I will take you through the kitchen so you can see for yourself how meticulous we are in serving our gluten free customers. I hope you are feeling better....Alan

      That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

      I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

      Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

      I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

      I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?
