New Diet Problems

I have always had digestive issues and believe that both mine and my wife's health issues can be perfectly explained by a gluten intolerance. So for almost a week now we have been eating gluten free but we both seem to be suffering from additional stomach discomfort and it almost seems like Im not digesting my food properly. I know this is a symptom of of celiac but it didnt start until after I changed my diet. Is it possible that Im detoxing the remaining gluten from my system? Or maybe its just a reaction to a change in diet? Im very perplexed by this and I want to continue but I feel something may be wrong. We mainly just stopped eating grains by replacing it with alot of fruit, veggies and dairy. I stay away from food that comes from boxes and tend to go all natural. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? We cut out soy too

It's likely your body adjusting to the diet. It takes a while to purge the poison from your system. It would be a good idea to lay off the dairy for awhile, as most have a hard time with it at first. I felt a lot worse before I felt better, because my system had to "re-learn" how to process food. Since I had severe malabsorption and malnutrition, it had been quite some sometime since my body had been absorbing nutrients.

Hang in there, and you might like to keep a food journal to be able to track reactions. It's sometimes hard to tell because reactions can be delayed.

You said you added a lot of dairy. Were you guys eating a lot of dairy before? Lactose intolerance is not uncommon in the general population at large, and is even more common in celiacs, particularly early in their gluten-free diet experience. You may want to try cutting out dairy or using lactose free products or lactaid.

Thanks for the comments. We have both always ate dairy, not a great amount but at least some everyday. We have begun to eat slightly more but only about an extra yogurt a day and there have been times in the past that I have eaten much more than I do now. I guess it could be a lactose intolerance but these symptoms to me seem to be from the change in diet. I am having a hard enough time going gluten and soy free and the thought of cutting out dairy is a nightmare. Im hoping there is another cause like Woliki mentioned and it could just be an adjustment period.

I also think it's your body detoxing/adjusting esp since you're eating pretty healthy. I had to lose the dairy. You may want to just test that. I think I was pretty sick for a couple of weeks while my body seemed to get rid of all the poison.
