Microwaving Sponges?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if microwaving sponges is okay, that is if the heat somehow creates "gluten-vapors" that you might breath in?

Thanks

Also, I feel like saying that if anyone wants anti-oxidants Countrylife has a good gluten-free brand. It doesn't really affect my question but I figured "why not add it".

If that is something you are worried about you could let the sponges cool before taking them out of the microwave. It won't 'kill' any gluten in them. If you live in a mixed house you might want to use color coded sponges for gluten and gluten free cleaning of items. Another option might be using damp paper towels to wipe down surfaces of gluten crumbs and then tossing them and using the sponge with soapy water after all the crumbs are removed to clean.

We have blue sponges for the boys gluten & purple for mom. I put them in the top rack of the dish washer for a few times until they get a bit raggity.
