Dermatitis Herpetiformis Testing

Recommended Posts

I have asked my dermatologist for DH testing. Previously I've been diagnosed with eczema by one Dr. and Psoriasis by 2 others. Have been treated with many topicals by prescription. Then 6 months of Enbrel injections which didn't work and have now had 5 Stelara injections with no improvement.

I have been gluten free for 10 days and the biopsy is not until next week, will the test work correctly if I am not eating gluten?

My son's dermatologist said that you need an active lesion. We have an order for a drop in appointment for when he gets one.

You have to be eating gluten...just like the intestinal biopsy. If you have been off of gluten you could test negative and it could still be DH. This is according to Dr. Peter Green in his book Celiac, The Hidden Epidemic. The biopsy also needs to be taken from clear skin directly adjacent to the lesion. If the lesion itself is biopsied you will not test positive. The IgA antibodies are in the clear skin surrounding the lesion.

Might want to start eating gluten again to have an accurate test. Sorry.
