13mnth Old Test Negative For Celiac

My 13mnth old son has had colitis, apparently due to food allergies since he was 5mnths old. We have been seeing a pediatric GI doc. We are still unsure of exactly what he is allergic to. We are both dairy, wheat, egg, rice and corn free since he is breastfeeding. I am not gluten free but he is. This diet has helped. We challenged wheat back in twice (most recently 2 weeks ago) and both times after about a week of normal stools while eating wheat the colitis returned. We have been wheat free for the past 4 days and he is still having the colitis. He is also anemic according to a recent hemoglobin test - 9.3 down from 12 in April. Is it possible that he does in fact have celiacs disease even though he tested negative. Do these symptoms sound familiar to any of you? He is above average weight and height but has a very poor appetite when the colitis is present. He always nurses well. He is also developmentally right on target, walking, talking etc... I am just so frustrated! We will be seeing a pediatric allergist at the end of August. Oh, BTW my father has celiac disease. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA

Testing in kids under the age of 2 can be false so that could be why the tests were negative.

I've heard too that testing under age 2 or 3 is not as reliable as adults. If you want to try the gluten-free diet for your ds, you will need to be on it too, just as you're already avoiding the eggs, etc.

Kudos to you for trying to figure it all out. It's hard. Have you also looked into the eight common allergens? Google the term for info. It may be your son has allergies to more than you think, independent from the celiac issue.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
