People Who "bailed" When You Were Sick/crippled With Pain?

IrishHeart -

I can relate to what you have said here. I've had a similar experience with my family. They don't want to hear about it and don't want to deal with it so now I'm not invited to family get together's because of that 'gluten thing again' . My immediate family is good (my sons) and my Mother tries but she is stuck in her own little world. I have friends that while they don't understand completely they are trying and that makes me thankful.

I think that those that walk away have other issues that we can't begin to see until something happens. You seem to be a strong woman as I am but even us strong one's can be hurt by other peoples actions... Hang in there

Hi Judy, :) Glad to see you are doing so well, BTW!

It's funny you mention this....I am seeing this clearly now (with a little help from wise hub) . And, my family members are slowly coming around--they KNOW it's a genetic issue, but they are scared. (I have no children myself--couldn't carry to term; but I have siblings, niece, nephews and they have little ones and dozens of cousins.) I informed BOTH sides of my family because both my parents carry the gene.

..It's okay--I'll be here to help when they want it. :) It's going to happen; I have no doubt many of them are GI or celiac. (several autoimmune diseases)

And YES! You are so right! The two people who have surprised me the most by their "lack of concern" have "issues" (family, self-worth, and YES! Other symptoms that are CLEARLY food intolerances) themselves.

I have made allowances for that because I know this and yet...it does still "sting"...but I'll get over it eventually. I'm a resilient sort. I'll find other outlets for my time. Hell, as soon as I can handle the travel, we're taking a LOOOOONG much-deserved vacation!! B)

Thanks I am doing pretty well and I'm sooo happy. Speaking of vacations I get to go to CA to my son's for two weeks next month.. the ocean breeze, the smell of the redwoods, and my grandson Henry... yay!! I may not come back. He's 13 months old already and called me the other day... too funny I answered the phone and I hear 'g'maaa?' Melted my heart. It's the little moments in life like that that make all the struggles and issues worth the trip!

Have a great weekend
