What's Wrong With My 3 Year Old?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

My 3 year old was tested negative for celiac even though his 4 yr old brother has it and I think I do (my blood test was positive, endo. negative) I don't beleive the test results for him so he's been gluten free for months now. However he still has sketchy sympotms: very underweight he weighs 29 lbs but tall and u can see his ribs, very moody although hes always been that way, he either goes from severe constipation where I have to give miralax and possibly an enema to 3 smelly, diarhhea filled diapers a day. Should I do an elimination diet? Where do I even begin with that? Could he not have Celiac and have something else? Do i take him to an allergist? No doc can give me answers they say hes fine but I knwo hes not. Someone please help. His gasto doc is very well known for celiac disease where I live but even she has poo pooed this. Very upsetting

I will preface this with "I'm not a mother", but has he still been on dairy? My niece is lactose intolerant and has terrible constipation issues from dairy. (The poor girl had to go off of breast milk. :( ) If you push stool softeners/laxatives, you can cause poor nutrient absorption, causing the skinniness/crankiness.

The other possible issue is cross-contamination, though if your two children are eating the same foods and not having reactions together, that makes it harder to tell.

I was wondering about him being lactose intolerant. I think he can be tested for that or you can try eliminating dairy from his diet x

I second the lactose and the CC.

You DO have celiac. A positive blood test means you have celiac! They endo can have a false negative. The intestine is so long and they only take about 4 microscopic pinches for the endo. I think odds are well against them finding the damaged spots. It's like they throw darts in a dark closet! Don't get me started on how irate I am that testing for celiac is so poor.

You are another of the thousands of victims whose doctor does not know what he is doing. I have a friend who was told they were uncertain after positive blood and negative endoscopy. Now 7 years later she is barely thriving, looks like ghost and has fallen into mental illness from the affects of gluten on her brain. She is gluten free now after I told her this, but she is so sick it's going to take awhile to heal. She may never heal fully. Go gluten free yesterday! Get gluten out of your diet and call yourself celiac. Fire that doctor!!!!!

Thank you, yes he is on dairy so I will get him tested and also eliminate it for a little to see if that could be the issue. Thanks for the suggestion I truly appreciate it.
