Not to make anyone squeamish, but when you say "pale" what color is that? Gray? Brown?yellow?

My son had one that was 2 totally different colors on the same stool. One was dark, and one was what I could consider "pale"

I don't really have any advice for you just wanted to say my daughter has had the same thing. Part would be really dark and the rest would be a light tan color.

That's exactly what happened. Is your daughter diagnosed? On a gluten free diet?

I try to keep my kids gluten free - never been tested but I have celiac. On Saturday she had birthday cake - orange and chicken with bar b que sauce. Sunday morning she had a tummy ache and "pale"stools mixed with something orange. when I wiped her it looked like she also was bleeding.

Is this a cause for concern? Today her stool was olive green.

She is not diagnosed. By the time we found a doctor who suggested Celiac she had already been on a gluten free diet for some time so they did a genetic test. It came back positive for DQ8. We did a 3 month gluten challenge so we could have her tested. The 3 months was miserable and she was so sick, tired, and pale but she had a negative blood test. If I knew what I know now we wouldn't have done the gluten challenge. I still believe she most likely has celiac but unless they come up with a test that doesn't require you to consume gluten then we may never officially know. She is on a very strict gluten free diet. We've actually been totally grain free for a few months now and it has made even a bigger difference.

I'm about 99% sure our 2 year old has celiac. She has not had any testing, we don't want to have to put her back on gluten to do that. She has the genetics, she gets diarrhea and says her tummy hurts, and she gets a rash that I'm pretty sure is dermatitis herpetiformis.

Does he have any other symptoms? Is anyone else in your family gluten intolerant or celiac?

We are in the exact same boat right now. I put my 16 month old through a gluten challenge and ended up with negative bloodwork. I have no doubt that she has celiac's.

As for pale stools, my LOs would look a very light tan. I actually did a lot of research to find out what "pale" stools were and this is what they are. She also had one clay colored stool, this looked like a bright reddish orange. It was really funky.

stool color depends on the way the food was digested. since the intestines are damaged its not giving the liver enough time to deliver bile which causes yellowish/pale stool because its passed through the body too fast. its just part of celiacs disease. i would suggest a bland, gluten free diet to heal her gut. and when he/she gets older give them a papaya tablet (digestive enzyme) pale stool is actually a symptom of celiacs disease its just not deemed important by doctors. but through alot of medical research i have found it to be a symptom. here is one of the websites i know of off hand- Open Original Shared Link

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
