I need to order some digestive enzymes and I'm wondering if anyone has any that they really like. Thanks for any recommendations!

In researching enzymes, and trying a few, I found that many are in fact not gluten-free because they contain barley enzymes, including some which are claimed to be gluten-free on the label. The two which I found to be gluten-free and helpful are Digest Platinum from NOW Foods, and the ones made by Doctor's Best. I chose these specific ones because they are derived entirely from microbial sources, which are not only gluten-free, but the enzymes from such sources are able to handle the pH of the stomach, so they make it into the intestines intact, where they can do their job.

Hi Babs,

I used Enzymedica Digest Gold, after talking with several people on here about them. I spoke with a rep from the company who told me they do not use barley malt in their product, they are gluten free and produced in a gluten-free facility. I have used them for 9 months. They helped me immensely with digestion, alternating D and C, and repairing my burning, inflamed GI tract.

Although, after reading Rice Guy's Post, I looked up the NOW brand and they are a LOT cheaper..... :o

I suggest taking a good multi-strain probiotic as well.

As I recall from another post, you are in Poland? They should be able to ship to you from some place like iherb. without a problem, I think! (although I am sure the shipping charge may be hefty)

Hope you are feeling better.

Cheers, IH

Thanks for the suggestions; they are very helpful since I'm having to do my 'shopping' remotely, over the internet. I am indeed in Poland and have been stymied trying to find something here. I've got a gluten-free probiotic...that just arrived so I've only just started it. I'm hoping the two together will help with my occasional gurgling gut and discomfort.

Lately I've been using futurebiotics Vegetarian Enzyme Complex. It has several digestive enzymes, Lactobacillus spores and Betaine-HCl all in one pill. When I buy probiotics I would get one with a mixture of good bacteria. The last that I used had 9 different 'good' bacteria. Mostly now I use sheep milk yogurt with live cultures. Some people use both milk and water Kefir. Some people buy a large yogurt maker and use cow or goat milk. Some people use sauerkraut with live bacteria available in most health food store refrigerators.

Babs,

My very "celiac-savvy" NEW GI doc :) has suggested I swtich up probiotics from time to time to get the proper range of strains. He had me add a simple, OTC one called CULTURELLE that has lactobacillus GG---this strain is key, he claims. Whatever it is, it has made me (mom and hubby, too) right as rain!!

Hope your trip to Greece was fab!! Gosh, all that wonderful lamb and stuffed grapes leaves---olives and feta.... drool and YUM (I am half Armenian--this food is like heaven in the mouth to me :) )....let me know how you are doing from time to time!

Cheers, Irish
