Didn't see it but saw some commentary on it today. I don't know... would they poke fun at a kid with diabetes? I just can't see them making the same jokes about sugar free candy as they apparently did about gluten free pizza.

Introduction on Hulu, 2:15 minutes

"It's in everything good, honey." <_<

I blogged about it on my blog this morning and that is exactly what I said....would they joke about someone with diabetes, cancer, or lupus in the same manner?? Doubt it!! I wrote ABC a letter this morning expressing my unhappyness with the episode. If anybody missed it you can watch it on ABC. If you are not happy about it I would say write them a letter. Odds are this character will continue on the gluten free diet in the show and if we don't speak up they will continue to show it in a negative way. If we all speak up maybe they will change the way they portray how the child eats.

They've also got a facebook page for the show. Might be good to leave a public comment!

Well, all I saw was the clip on Hulu... but if that's as bad as it gets... quite frankly.... I think its rather accurate. Dad doesn't know what it is, jumps on the bandwagon. Mom is ready to pull her hair out but deals. Kid is less than thrilled. They have some overly helpful gluten-free friends (and she even makes good points about her skin, boobs not so much??). Sure, the people are ridiculous but its SITCOM.

And if they end up making fun of gluten-free pizza, well, quite frankly I've only had one gluten-free pizza that was very good so the reputation is well deserved.

I mean jeez, it IS in everything "good" from a typical westernized diet perspective!!!

It will be interesting to see if they keep up the story line.

Of course, not interesting enough for me to watch it....

I just watched that episode and while I didn't care for it as a show, I didn't find that the facts were managed too horribly.

While they did show people cheating on the diet, the one who needed gluten free for medical reasons did not cheat and I think it did bring up a valid point that the diet can be difficult to adhere to at first especially when you are used to a gluten laden heavily processed diet, which from what they showed the tv couple getting rid of they were following a heavily processed diet which is common in today's society.

In my opinion since they did give facts and the child who needed to followed the diet with parents who tried to be supportive (in an odd competitive way), that it was not too bad of a portrayal.

And as far as the pizza, my daughter and I laughed at that one because it showed it having to be eaten with a spoon because it was a crumbly mess...my first gluten free pizza attempt turned out almost exactly like that.
