Cheating: On Purpose Or Not

This blog is inspired by Mosiac's tea cakes. I didn't used to get sick when I ate gluten before I was diagnosed (at least I didn't know I was getting sick, but I had thyroid, early menapause, osteopenia, etc). :blink: After a year gluten-free I find that my body does react when inadvertedly contaminated. Basically, I don't cheat. I thought I would (like when I visit my husband's family in Louisanna and his mama sets biscuits out on the table every morning) but I have found it easier than I thought it would be. It's like I have trained my impulses to ignore the things I can't eat and so I do not really desire them anymore. Still, this will all change once they invent that magic gluten-intolerance pill!!I have a possibility to teach dance this winter on a small cruise ship for two weeks. They say in their brochure that they cannot accomodate any dietary restrictions (even Vegetarians!). My husband wants to know what I plan to eat for two weeks but I'm so gung ho with the idea that I'm thinking I'll just ignore the contamination issues and just eat what I think will be okay. They should have salad right? Besides sea sick, gluten sick, how will I know the difference??

We went on a rafting trip down the grand canyon for 21 days. Camping out on the sand at night and eating from one menu. I had told the trip leader before we left that I was gluten intolerant, but once we got on the trip, I realized he had completely ignored my request and not made any dietary changes. I learned to eat sandwiches without bread (put the filling in a bowl) but when supper was pasta or spaghetti I had not choice. I probably should have brought emergency rations. I guess from that experience, I don't trust people who say they will accommodate my diet. Good luck.
