  1. Ennis...you would be rinsing your hair thoroughly so this perceived threat is not really as you described. It also does not help us to take you seriously when you ask those of us with shorter hair to STFU and insinuate that your rant makes you look like a girl, a trans or a queer. That kind of talk would get you a dope slap from me if I could reach you. You need to take a deep breath and think for a minute before posting when that angry. As others have stated, read the science.
  2. I am one of those people who tested high positive on every test on the panel and I had a complete panel done. But I had a lifetime of symptoms and wasn't diagnosed until I was 46 so that's a lot of damage. This is why I did not need the biopsy for a diagnosis. It really doesn't matter because, like you stated, with 2 positives on the IgA, there is a high probability of Celiac. A biopsy would be indicated with those results. It would have been nice if they had run the EMA, though.

  4. No, they are not wrong. This article sounds like it comes from the anti-make-up crowd. Especially with regards to DH, the reaction is a celiac reaction....it comes from within. For those who react topically with DH to gluten containing products, they most likely have an additional wheat allergy or just extremely sensitive skin, which would make sense with someone with the skin version of celiac. It could even be a sensitivity to another ingredient. Considering that it takes quite awhile for the IgA deposits to clear the skin after going gluten free, I think people sometimes blame topical products when they just haven't healed yet. I have read it can take up to 2 years for that to happen....same with those who have intestinal issues and other celiac symptoms. Bottom line is that if you feel more comfortable going entirely gluten free, then do it. But for many people, it is not necessary and using products safely with celiac can be done successfully. As long as you screen lip products and hand lotion and use common sense with regards to CC, you'll be fine.

    You will probably get the same answer from the wine maker. As whiskey is considered gluten free by distillation, and wine is gluten free, they will tell you that the wine is gluten free. The percentage of people who say they react to whiskey is pretty small.....most Celiac's can drink whiskey once they have healed their gut. I do not drink any hard liquor for different reasons but have had other wine by this label with no issues. I have been gluten free for 12 years though.......I am very healed!

  9. A few things to consider.......gluten of any kind cannot be absorbed into the skin as the molecule is too large. I know some people have trouble with this concept but it's a science that is well understood. I do not worry about anything that goes onto my body except for my hands and lips. It is still OK to use a product that is not labeled as gluten-free on your face but you should take care to avoid your mouth area when applying. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, then use a labeled gluten-free sunscreen. And ALWAYS wash hands well after applying any sunscreen or make-up, etc. as eating these things is not recommended, whether gluten free or not. Secondly, the most common ingredient that many mistake as a problem is Vitamin E (tocopherols), which can be used in sunscreen. See the article below on that. It is an older article but still is considered correct information for Celiac's. Can you list the ingredients from the sunscreen that you like? I always read the ingredients list because sometimes manufacturers get their info wrong on what is actually gluten-free or not. https://www.glutenfreedietitian.com/vitamin-e-from-wheat-germ-oil/ FYI...I have been gluten-free for 12 years, a diagnosed Celiac. I never screen make-up EXCEPT that which is used on my hands and lips. I have never been glutened by any product or had any problems. It's not that hard to be careful if you really love a product. There is a disclaimer about the gluten-free status and it's the usual one you see when companies are just trying to cover their butts. And yes, it looks like they use tocopherols in their product and that might very well be the "questionable" ingredient that is considered safe I would use this product without any reservations but just make sure you wash your hands after applying. No one wants sunscreen in their food!
  10. With a positive EMA and a positive tTg, that is a slam dunk for Celiac Disease. If you read about testing results, the odds are 99% that you have it. You also had very high numbers on your testing so that adds to the diagnosis. At this point, the biopsy, if you have it done, is to check for the amount of damage, and is not needed for a diagnosis. I declined the biopsy as I was very sick at diagnosis. The doctor who ran my blood panel said there was no doubt I had it due to the high numbers on my blood work. I have been gluten-free for 12 years and every single doctor I have ever seen since then, who whined about me not having the biopsy, shut up about it once they saw my initial blood work. The difference in my health since going gluten free was nothing short of amazing. I am sure you will have the same results, once you go gluten free.
  11. LAX Airport - gluten free options??

    It is entirely possible to get a safe meal at an airport. I always go to the high end places and that makes a difference. I have no idea what they have at LAX but Legal Seafoods, if they have one there, is ALWAYS safe because they follow strict protocol for Celiac dining. I ate at the Boston one on my Colorado trip in October and it was excellent and I never had a problem. The menu is limited for gluten-free at an airport but who cares......all I wanted was a safe meal and that is what I got. The baked fish was delicious. They even had gluten-free cracker crumbs for the topping but that is Legal's...they do good work for the Celiac community. The manager oversees the meal prep for food allergy folks. In Denver, there was a Wolfgang Puck's for breakfast. They had prepackaged fruit salads which were very good. I took a leap of faith and asked the server if they could make me a gluten-free omelette, in a separate clean pan and they were very accommodating. They had an open kitchen so I could watch them make it. I could not order the other stuff that went with it but the omelette was delicious and I never had a problem. It can be done but you have to be careful. There was a place that advertised gluten-free sandwiches in Denver. You could see the guy making the sandwiches. I ran from that place because there was bread all over the place and no way could they make that space safe for a Celiac. A lot of the places had open kitchens so you can watch what they do and that makes a big difference. Check out the restaurant listings on-line as they are listed. Have a great trip!
  12. You are a nice person, Ennis, to do this for Thanksgiving! If I were in Texas, I would feel safe eating your food and it sounds delicious! To have an allergy safe meal served in a church is a wonderful thing.
