  1. Anything sugar free makes me sick. Malitol, Sorbitol give me extreme diarrhea and migraines and splenda gives me headaches. The only sweetener I can have is somersize sweetner in the states made from a bean and is all natural and great to bake with. I live in Summerland, BC and there is a restaurant here called Cozy Bay Seafood and they have gluten free fish and chips. THey are yummy and wonderful to eat.
  2. Hi there, I live in Canada/ Any other Canadians out there who had a tough time getting a diagnosis? for 7 years after a car accident where I was pregnant and didn't know it I had horrible pain after I ate and sacroillitis. I was told I had IBS. I had a biopsy and enderoscopy because the gastroenterologist suggested poss. Chrohns. The biopsy came up negative for celiac disease but he said he couldn't see alot in the intestine due to so much inflammation. That was 7 years ago. After that I met a woman who said maybe you are allergic to gluten. I said "what is that?" she explained to me and took me to the health food store. I started a gluten free diet and became much better after about 5 months. Once I got better I began eating normally again. and had constant diarrhea. Embarrassingly one day I didn't make it to the bathroom and had diarrhea in my pants in front of my new husband and new children 10 and 11 (the kids thought it was funny). I had migraines every day, I went to my doctor and she said well a long time ago you were told you had IBS and she put me on the pills for IBs. They didn't help and I told her I think I am a celiac and went on a gluten free diet. My doctor gave me the blood test a month after I was gluten free and it came back negative. I could not go on a diet of gluten again for testing so I went to enterolab and my tests came back positive for gluten intolerent and dairy intolerant. I went to my first celiac meeting on Sunday and it was a gluten free potluck and delicious. The regional manager said the US tests tend to be more reliable and that some people who are positive on a biopsy test negative on the blood test and also some specialist don't know how to read a biopsy properly. I suggest Save yourself a lot of time and havoc and go through enterolab. If you can afford it. 7 years later I finally have something in writing and have a gene also that makes a person gluten intolerant.
  3. all you folks who live in Surrey their is a wonderful gluten free bakery in Vancouver called Panno Rizo. They are fabulous and will send stuff out to Surrey if you order it. They have gluten free sausages, homemade pot pies, pie, cakes, pizza, lasagna, you name it. Everything is fresh and not cardboard tasting. They are in the book and you can probably find them on the net. I haven't been there in a long time since I live in Summerland.
  4. Just wondering if any celiacs here have tailbone and sacroilliac problems? I have had these for 7 years and since that time have had problems with gluten.
  5. I get horrible pain and diarrhea like many after eating gluten by accident and anything with preseratives. Then I get unbeleivable anxiety because someone is usually waiting for me. Last week I had all these people coming over for a barbecue and got very ill a half an hour after them arriving. I was so sick I couldn't make it down and my guests felt bad and left. I felt so embarassed. I would like to take a medication for anxiety but I also don't tolerate many medications very well and have problems with corn. Can anyone relate to this and does anyone have any suggestions for things that can help with anxiety? Fraggle in Canada
  6. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and am gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant. I have so much diarrhea and am overweight. Before going gluten free I constantly had diarrhea after eating. You would think that i would be underweight. Wierd ah? Anyways I have decided to follow my gluten free program strictly and do the weight watchers program at home since it fits in with gluten free foods and I ordered the slim and six videos and am starting Monday. I'll let you know how it goes. Goin to be tough. I just want to tone up and feel sexier. Somethin about diarrhea just makes ya feel unsexy. Tamara
