  1. Hi there. My 5 year old was just diagnosed two months ago, and this was very important to me also. We are human right (smile). Anyway, McDonald's french fries are gluten-free. Also, just from reading the message board, I have found that Wendy's fries, baked potato, chili, and salads are gluten-free. Yesterday, I just learned that Outback Steakhouse has a Gluten Free Menu. You can go to their web site to look at the menu. Hope this helps.
  2. I thought that most cheeses were gluten-free, with the exception of Blue Cheese. My daughter had a reaction to shredded cheese with taco seasoning in it. Exactly what ingredient in the cheese contains gluten? Also, are all American, Cheddar(and shredded), and Mozerella cheeses gluten-free? Thanks for your help. (Any cheese information appreciated).
  3. Thank you everybody for all the great suggestions. It makes me feel so good to know that there is some support, especially when you are new to this whole gluten-free thing. About the amusement park, I was also wondering the same thing: Do you need a letter or do they take your word for it that you have Celiac Disease? I actually just got a letter from my daughter's doctor, so I will be sure to keep copies handy...one for income taxes, one for parks, backup, etc. Thanks again everybody!!
  4. I was just wondering. First of all, is Pediasure gluten-free? I think it is. Does anyone know if you can claim Pediasure on your income taxes? It is doctor recommended to help gain wieght for my daughter who has celiac disease. Also, do you know if insurance companies pay for Pediasure, considering it being medically necessary? I know I can call them. Just wanted to know if anyone knows already. Thanks.

  6. My 5-year-old was just diagnosed with celiac disease. We have a vacation planned to Disney World. Does anyone have suggestions of what to eat while visiting amusement parks all day? Most gluten-free foods seem to need time to prepare them. The first few days will be fine. I can cook a big meal and then heat it up when needed. But I am at a loss for the rest of the trip. Ideas??
  7. Hi. I am new to this forum (first day). My 5-year-old was just diagnosed with celiac disease two months ago. When she was diagnosed, one of my worries was what would she do when all the other kids are eating junk food, and she can not? Although junk food should not be a priority, for a 5-year-old, this is still very important.(at least for mine it is). Betty Hagman's (The Gluten-Free Gourmet Makes Dessert) is a great book to get. You can borrow it from the library, or purchase one like I did. So far, the recipes are turning out great, especially the ultimate brownies. My daughter and I (and rest of family) have made preparing deserts a family fun activity. She looks forwards to different desserts in her lunch often. Not from the book, but still good and quick are peanut butter cookies. Hope this little bit of information helps you. Best of luck.
