    I have enjoyed this topic a lot. It is true that the general population doesn't think about what they eat. My freinds still ask me sometimes why I spend all my time at the store reading lables. "Wouldn't be quicker to just by whats on sale?" I wonder about wether they think before they talk. 6 years ago I got into an agruemant with a women who was a rabid vegitarian and was convinced that EVERYONE should be a vegitarian. ME: I would have a hard time being a vegitarian as I'm intolerant to gluten, dairy and soy. Her: It's imposible to be intolerant or allergic to soy. It's the perfect food. No-one is allergic to soy. Me: If I eat something with soy in it, I get sick. Her: It's just in your head. We agrued for a few more minutes, then I just had to walk away. Some people you just can't talk to.

    MSAU 22 , I know exactly how you feel. 10yrs ago I was there. At college, trying to be gluten free, and my friends didin't understand. They hated going out to dinner with me b/c I'd always ask the waiter what was in sauces, where they made with wheat or other gluten products. Even fast food places b/c I'd take the burger out of the bun. They got so embarrassed. It is very hard to stick to the diet with friends/family are not supportive. When a speciallist told me that I didn't have celiac, and was there for not gluten intolerant, I made one of the biggest mistakes in my life. I started eating gluten again, every day. 8yrs later I am sicker than I ever was and recently have returned to the gluten free diet. I know that I have to remind myself daily at this point that I am doing this to make my-self feel better, and that it isn't a qiuck fix. Just stick with it faithfully and you'll feel better.
  3. I Hate Everything...

    I know I shouldn't/can't eat gluten. I've known for 14 yrs. But how do I stop? I restarted the gluten-free diet last week and the cravings are driving me crazy. I am the only one in my family with this problem, and my mom is unwiling/ hesitant to eat gluten free foods that I can make with gluten. It is frustating and having to modify supper to feed two ways of eating and annoying. But mostly I know my mental and physical well-being are linked to being gluten-free/SF. I just really want those doritoes.
  4. No, I can't afford to be tested. I wish I could. I have limited my soy and am trying to work out gluten free. I am wondering sbout all this talk of cross conatmination. I never though it was a problem. There is so much more information available now than 10 yrs ago that I am a bit confused and overwelmed by it all.
  5. I am new here and would really appretiate any advice. I know I'm lactose and gluten intolerant. I started the gluten free diet one week ago. It is as hard as I remembered it, but the choices are much more numerous than 10yrs ago. My guestion is if I suspect a soy intolerance, should I go soy free now, or weight til I've been on the gluten free diet awhile? I get a headache when I eat something made with soy flour. Don't know if I have Celiac.

  7. Thank God I am not alone. I thought I might be the only one who gained weight with a c=gluten intolerance. I don't know if I have Celiac's, but I do know that I am gluten/lactose/soy intolerant. I have not followed the diet in years, (just started agian this week), but gained 40lbs in 5 months. Glad to have company on this side of the wieght issue.
  8. Hi. I'm new here and have looked though the site. I am trying to find out if my gluten intolerance is also Celiac disease. I have previously gone on a gluten free diet, which was successful, but I've been off it for 8yrs. I now need to return to it, but I wonder if I have Celiac disease too. I was tested 10ys ago, but I had been gluten free for a couple of years at the time. My blood test came back negative. I have many of the symtems, GI distress, depression, brian fog, listed exept weight loss. In fact, in the last 5 months I have gained 40lbs. I have been overweight all my life, but this is bad. Can you have Celiac disease and gain weight? I'm sorry if this question has been posted before. I looked but didn't find one like it. I am trying to decide if I need to find a doctor to test me for celiac disease. Or just say it doesn't matter and just go gluten free. I am lactose intolerant, and think I have soy issues as well. Any help and/or advise is welcome. Thank you Britt
