  1. I had great results with York. Some of their findings were confirmation but some were a complete surprise, but explained so much. My list is listed in my signature, so I won't list it here. But, for instance, the tomato was one I had no idea on. Its on my rotate list, so I avoid it now but it expalined why spaghetti would make me sick. When I found out about the gluten intolerance, I thought "ah-ha"....thats the problem. So I ran out, bought rice pasta (which was wonderful btw), organic gluten-free sauce and had spaghetti for the first time in years. The first fews times, no problem, but as I ate it more and more, I started feeling sick again. Then York reports I'm allerigc to tomatos and peppercorn. I think it was well worth the money spent. Now I have a list that I adhere to religiously and feel so much better. IGG food allergies are so hard....they can be delayed, they can depend on the combination of foods you eat, etc. It really takes a comprehensive test to pin down the problem I think.
  2. Hi Julie, The EXACT same thing happened to me for years and for years I thought I had "funny" blood sugar. I would eat and 20 minutes later, I'd be just tired to death. Then, I started also sometimes getting weak, or feel like my heart skipped a beat, etc. I had my blood sugar tested and everything was fine but still the problem. For me, I found out (the hard way) it was food allergy, IGG mediated. My reaction depended on not only the food I was eating that I was sensitive to, but also my "allergic burden" at the time. My allergist told me to think of it like a bucket. Everytime you exposed yourself to something that you are sensitive to, be it food, mold, cat hair, pollen, etc., it adds an allergic reaction chemical to your "bucket". Your body handles it fine when the bucket is almost empty, but when it finally gets full....BAM! you react! And since food sensitivities can really last for a few days, you can be adding to your bucket and not even knowing it. My main culprit at the time was a severe IGG antibody to both egg white and egg yolk. So, one day, I'd have a salad with blue cheese dressing and be ok. Then the next day, a sandwich with mayo and I'd feel like a truck hit me! So I'd stay away from everything except fruit, veggies and meat for a few days, feel better, eat a sandwich again and I'd be fine. It was so confusing! At any rate, I don't know if this helps, but you can try just spending a week on meat and veggies, rice or potatos....everything as plain as you can make it. See if that makes a difference for you. Then add something back in and eat it frequently for a couple of days. You could also try a food allergy panel from somewhere like York Nutrition Labs.....that is what I finally did and found the 10 things that I just can't eat. That cured my problems at least (along with assorted tummy trouble that even gluten-free diet didn't cure). Hope this helps. Jen
  3. Hello all, I don't post often but come here a lot for information since I had an inconclusive blood test result for Celiac. I did have a biopsy done, which was negative (thank goodness). I've been gluten free since the blood test, just because I knew that wheat, etc made me sick Anyway, in my journey to figure out why I keep having stomach issues, I sent off a blood test to York Nutritional Labs and I've got the results. They actually explain so much and since eliminating the culprits, I'm feeling even better. But look at this list! Is anyone else here dealing with multiple allergies, sensitivities, etc? My worst IGG antibodies are soy, yeast and barley (explains why beer and even gluten free breads sometimes make me sick!) My lower IGG antibodies are tomato, peppercorn, nutmeg, wheat, gluten and milk. Interestingly, eggs did NOT show up this time, although I tested moderately severe to them over a year ago and have completely avoided them since them. The milk allergy also showed up at that same time, but I've not excluded it completely from my diet....guess thats why its still there. Is anyone else here dealing with an allergy list like this? I'm particularly interested in a bread recipe that would meet these requirements. Thankfully, potatos and rice are not a problem, so I'm hoping someone might have a recipe. Mostly though, I'm just looking for support I guess. I feel so betrayed by my body....diagnosed with MS about a year ago and now all this. Oh, and I also need a brand off supplements that I can take. I'm really getting worried about the calcium thing now. I'm lucky to get one serving of dairy a week and I just found out that low calcium can cause numbness and tingling in the face, extremities, etc. The doc's have written it off as MS but I'd like to try a supplement and see if it helps.   4. Breakfast

    Just a note because I didn't see it here yet.... Van's Original Waffles are gluten-free, egg-free and taste great right out of the toaster. Here's another thing I do for breakfast too.... On the weekend, I brown up about 1.5 lbs of ground beef or turkey, add a little seasoning, add some water or Imagine chicken broth and then throw in some frozen mixed veggies. Boil for about 5-10 minutes and stick it in the fridge. I also steam a pot of brown rice, put THAT in the fridge and then eat a scoop of the rice with the meat/veggies in the morning. I know it sounds funny, but no sugar rush, it sticks with me, gets in an extra serving of fiber and veggies for the day and tastes good. Add an orange a couple of hours later and I've got a bunch of my "suggested servings" before lunch!

  6. Hi all, I searched, but can't find anything on the board about this. Does anyone know if Alieve (OTC pain reliever) is gluten-free? My support nurse for the MS injection I take has suggested it for helping with the side effects of the meds, and I don't know if I can take it. Don't have a bottle of it in the house, so thought I'd ask here first. Thanks, Jen
  7. Wheeeee! Well, its over and all the fuss was for nothing. Thank you all for your support...........it really helped. One bad note, a medicine I take for MS made the sedative that they give for the scope non-effective for the most part. 4 times the regular dose and I was still awake, so they just went ahead. But, all in all, it wasn't bad (although when it wore off a little bit I was just in tears for some reason). I've got the pictures....first, normal stomach esophegus (sp?) and small intestine. No ulcers, no inflammation, everything looks great. They took biopsies throughout and that will be back in about a week, but the only thing that the doc thinks will show up is celiac. (nothing terrifying in my stomach like cancer or anything, which was a real fear of mine). She also understands that I've been gluten-free for 2 months, nearly gluten-free for over a year, the biopsy may be normal but can NOT be used to rule out celiacs. So, I'll let you know what we find...........thanks again! Jen
  8. Well, I've decided to have a scope done and some biopsies. I had bloodwork done a couple of months ago that was only positive for AGA IGAs. One doc said no celiac, an allergist said possibly celiac and I went gluten-free anyway. It has helped, but every couple of weeks, I am still getting stomach trouble that puts me out of work at times and DEFINITELY subtracts from my life. So I made an appointment with a GI, saw her today, and Tuesday I'm going to have a scope/biopsy done. I think I have a really good chance of a negative biopsy as I've been completely gluten-free for a couple of months and nearly gluten-free (due to other allergies) for over a year. I explained to the doctor, who is wonderful, that regrdless of biopsy results, I'm staying gluten-free...no matter what tests show, I know I get sick from wheat, etc. But I really want to check and make sure its nothing else, if that makes any sense. She understands and supports that, thank goodness. She is going to take several samples from my upper GI, check as far as she can go and also take stomach/esophegus (sp?) samples. I asked her to PLEASE PLEASE check everything she can "while she's in there"! Anyway, please wish me luck. I am absolutely terrified of having this done (my personal worse fear is choking, being unable to breathe, etc), but I've read from so many of you that its not bad, that I'm just going to do it.
  9. I just wanted to add something regarding your post. I've just reently found out that I am "gluten sensitive" and before that, I had times when I ate certain foods (like spaghetti, or chicken and dumplings, etc) that I also wouldn't have stomach issues....but I'd wake up in the night with that really fast, really hard heartbeat. My allergist at the time told me it was most likely an allergic reaction to something I ate - your body can actually have a delayed shock like reaction when the food hits your intestinal tract and the protiens are absorbed. So, don't think that just because you didn't get the bad stomach problems, it couldn't be gluten...the BEST thing I ever did was go gluten-free after having fairly "inconclusive" blood test results and no biopsy. The difference is amazing and continues to get better every day. I understand about the insurance/money issue. I have insurance and really feel for you in your situation. But going gluten-free can be a very cheap way to find out if it is a problem, although not if its the ONLY problem. Before I knew anything about gluten, celiacs, etc. and only knew that eating any kind of bread, pasta, etc. made me ill, I just switched my diet to lean meat, vegetables, fruit and potatos and rice. Didn't try to substitute, just got along without the other stuff. And I completely cut out any processed food, fast food, restaurant food, etc. That really saved money and gave me the budget I needed for the veggies and fruits (which can be a bit pricey). Keep us informed on how you are doing....read and learn here as much as you can. Jen
  10. Lisa, I don't use Kefir at all but started looking it up after reading your post. I'm looking hard for some natural solutions to general GI health issues. I was treated with a lot of antibiotics years ago for a tonsil infection and don't think my GI tract has ever recovered. Plus, now I find out I should never have been eating gluten and I also have MS. So you think its been good for you? Is this something you buy in the healthfood store? What brand do you get? Lots of questions, but I'd love to hear what you've found with this. Jen
  11. Hi all, Before I knew that I was gluten intolerant, I depended on Progresso soups in a can for quick meals/snacks. They always listed whether or not the soup contained egg product, so I loved how easy it was to pick up a can or two to have around. I emailed them (Betty Crocker) asking about gluten. They always list if the soup containers wheat ingredients but I wanted to see about hidden sources, etc. Here is their reply: Thank you for contacting Progresso regarding gluten in Progresso products. It is our primary goal to help our consumers determine whether or not they can include our products in their diet. To accurately accomplish this, we believe it is best to refer to the specific ingredients listed on each product package. However, we do understand that ingredients can be confusing, so we want to assure you if the ingredient label does not list wheat, barley, rye, oats or other sources of gluten, then the product would be gluten-free. Sources of gluten are listed on the label even if the source of gluten is part of another ingredient (such as flavoring or spice). Because ingredients may vary from one package to another due to product reformulation, you should use the product
  12. Hi everone...just wanted to let you know that after posting the above message, I googled the subject and found an article on the Gluten Free Pantry site that specifically addressed it. They say that the Ener-g replacer does not work well in their brownie mix and gave instructions on what to use. Thanks though
  13. Just for fun, I have an egg allergy as well as the recently dx'd gluten intolerance. Does anyone here know of the best egg replacer for baking? I haven't baked in ages because, surprise, surpirse, baked goods always made me sick! Now I've discovered the gluten-free diet, life is good and belly is happy. So, I want to try some treats, etc. that I've not had in so long. I bought some of gluten-free pantry's Truffle Brownie mix and made it according to the directions with the Ener-g egg replacer. It TASTES great, but is gooey in the middle, ok on the edges and it "flopped" in the center. Any tips on how to do this? Thanks, Jen
  14. Lisa, My only positive test was the AGA IgG...36.1, which was just barely positive. One doc said no gluten intolerance, another said I had to have a biopsy. I ignored both and just did what I knew I needed to do for myself. I went gluten-free just a short while ago and its changed my whole life. I also have MS, and injesting anything that I am sensitive too just makes the whole auto-immune thing worse. I'm now pain free, "regular" for the first time in YEARS! and have much more energy. Jen

    Lillie, I last ate something with oats in it about 3 years ago...the results were instant and BAD and I haven't touched it since. I just got DX'd a month ago, but knew there was something wrong with oats, at least for me. I guess everyone is different but from what I am reading, oats are out for those with celiac disease. Have you tried any of the Envirokidz cereals? I found some at my local Smith's grocery store and bought just so I would have something around. The "Gorilla Munch", made with corn, sugar and salt, is great! Not too sweet, crunchy in milk, and really really tasty. Especially when you've not been able to eat a cereal for breakfast in a while! They have a website...just google for it, plus it is sold online at a couple of places. You may want to give it a try. Jen
