  1. Jack In The Box

    August 24, 2011 On their site, Jack in the Box lists their ingredients (as of Aug 24, 2011), which is marginally helpful as long as you know the chemical forms of hidden gluten. Note, however, the company does not say which ingredients might have come down gluten-contaminated production lines at their source.     It would be so helpful if we each CAPITALIZED or ENLARGED THE DATE OF OUR POSTS, as the posts from several years ago are often inaccurate today. Unless a post is very recent, we just cannot assume it is true anymore. In fact, when I contact companies, I often learn old posts are not accurate. JUNE 24, 2011 I received this response today from Ghirardelli, which I had read was a safe chocolate, was eating it (and as a result getting horrible confusion and poor memory, which is my primary reaction: 9 days of profound stupidity, missing appointments, etc.). The Ghirardelli company wrote: Thank you for contacting Ghirardelli Chocolate. Ghirardelli currently offers one product which contains an gluten ingredient. Our Luxe Milk Crisp Squares and Bars, containing barley malt as an ingredient. As a result, the line on which our chocolate bars and Squares are produced, share a common line with barley gluten. The chocolate chips (60% Bittersweet, Semi-Sweet, and Milk Chocolate) line and powder line (hot chocolates and baking cocoas) will remain free of gluten ingredients. Ghirardelli takes the following measures to reduce cross contamination on our production lines: lines are cleaned between the changing from one product to the next. The first two batches of any product made are disposed of and not packaged.   3. Tuna Fish

    As of 6/10/2011, the Bumble Bee products are suspect until further notice. I just visited the company web site and on their FAQ page the question of gluten is addressed like this: "Most of our products are gluten free." But I can't find out which ones are safe to eat unless I write to them, because their contact info doesn't even include a phone number. There was a mention of wheat being listed, but then they put "(gluten)" after the word as if gluten only occurs in wheat, so I don't know if they even understand gluten. I was about to eat some of their premium light tuna in a pouch, which lists vegetable broth on the ingredient list, but I have read sometimes vegie broth includes gluten (ACK!!) or MSG (can you spell "headache?"). This is pretty inconvenient, I'm just returning it to the store and eating another brand willing to take our concerns more seriously.
  4. McCormick spices/extracts company does NOT guarantee to identify gluten, as of January 18, 2011 per their web site. The first two sentences make no sense after you read the last two sentences. Quote: None of our single ingredient spices and herbs contain gluten. In addition, all of our extracts, including Pure Vanilla, are gluten-free. Some of our products do contain gluten. When WHEAT is the source, it will always be called out within the ingredient statement, and listed in bold. We do not maintain a list of gluten-free products, as our formulas change from time to time.

    This list was last updated 9/14/2010: http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/list.pdf Strattera is listed as gluten free on that site. I don't know who puts out the list or how reliable it is. If anyone knows that, I'd like to find out. Thanks, Leslie
  6. I spoke with Safeway about their Safeway and Select brands today (which I find quite good), on 11/6/2009. The rep said gluten is one of the highest priority allergen labeling issues at Safeway. "If gluten is in there, it will be on the ingredient list," he said. He also offered to fax or email a list of their gluten-free store brand items within 24 hours. Cool! Now I can eat my Safeway Italian Sausage!
  7. I take melatonin nightly (less than 3 mg, however, or I get a headache) and have for over a year with no known problems. I have more than one autoimmune disorder, but it seems to be fine. I buy a brand without gluten in the coating, however!

  9. Unilever at Ragu sent me the following response on 3/10/2009: Thanks for writing! Common ingredients that may contain gluten are rye, wheat, oats and barley, and noodles and pasta prepared with any of the previously mentioned grains. HVP, TVP, flavorings, are likely to contribute gluten as well, however, if they contain any gluten, the source would always be listed in the ingredient statements. SINCE FORMULATIONS CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME, we do not have a printed list of products that identifies those products that contain specific allergens or gluten. The best advice we can give you is to check the ingredient list on the label. Ingredients allergens as defined by FDA: peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, seafood, wheat, eggs, and milk or dairy, as well as any ingredient that may contain gluten are always listed on the label. Therefore, WE SUGGEST READING ALL INGREDIENT LABELS CAREFULLY.
  10. I contacted Aveeno.com (a Johnson and Johnson web site) specifically about their Aveeno Ultra-calming Foaming Face Wash and asked it if contained oats (like most Aveeno products). Here is their response: In regard to your inquiry, we do not have a list of products that do or do not contain the ingredient you mentioned. If there are specific products you are interested in we would be glad to check on those products for you. [?!] Also at this time we only test for wheat gluten. [and make no claim on their products that they are wheat-gluten-free, apparently.] Again, thank you for your interest in our company.     3.3.2009 Red Robin will now print out a list of all gluten free options (updated monthly) for gluten free patrons. Their salmon burger in lettuce instead of bun is great! Be sure they leave the seasoning off those yummy fries!
  12. This is cross-posted from another web site and dated Nov. 7, 2007. I contacted the Lindt company when i couldn't get direct information from them off their web site. Lindt chocolate is not gluten free. "Thank you for your response. Our products are not Gluten free because we use Barley Malt in all of our cocoa for the chocolate. We need our malt in a certain form and broken down using a specific process to adhere to the Lindt
  13. Pacifica - on 2-26-09 - wrote me that all their products are gluten-free. Pacifica makes perfumes (solid and liquid), soaps, and candles - and they smell wonderful! I get them at Whole Foods, but Pacifica also has a web site. I did not ask whether they contain nuts.

It names companies that claim all their products are gluten-free, and it lists products that are gluten-free, and it lists products that are questionable because of their ingredients.
