  1. This is just my theory to hip/leg pain in celiac's and others. #1 In Chinese medicine, the IT band/hip area is part of the meridian that is liked to the digestive system. (liver, stomach, spleen, gallbladder, intestines) When that area gets "sticky" i.e. glutenized, blocked, imbalanced, one feels the pain in the hip, IT band, low back, joints. The blockage of chi needs releasing and the digestive tract cleansing. acupuncture/massage yoga, strecthing the hips and IT band. walking hot bath/sauna yogurt colostrum/whey protein apple cider vinegar treatment (clears your sinuses too. you may notice sinus issues when the intestines is sick) lemon juice/water fiber (in food or supplements) #2 Since celiac disease and getting glutenized causes malabsorbtion and stress, the body does not get enough nourishment. Extremity pain, neuropathy, paratheses, and aching in old injuries results from a need for b12 and extra vitamins. Again, this is my opinion based on just my experience and research I've done. I think gentle exercise like walking, yoga, swimming, physical therapy, stretching help release the blocked chi. If you're in pain and you sit there and let it fester, it has no where to go but to circulate in your body. Helping the body to rid itself of the toxins through diet and homeopathic medicine will help the body recover faster. Recently, I came off celebrex and experienced horrific aching in my hips/IT Band. Celebrex effects the GI tract. It was also one less thing for my liver to deal with. Now all this junk needed to come out and I took care of it with specific low back/hip/IT band stretches and diet. good luck!!!!
  2. I concur with the extra supplements. make sure the b12 is sublingual and that you are getting enough sunshine! You need vitamin D and K.
  3. I had the opposite. Hit puberty early, grew very fast and tall, have had terrible periods my whole life which I started early. My periods were heavy and horrible and I have PMDD. I figured out that the lack of vitamins made my period worse. Always had slow clotting, too. Celiacs can mess with hormones causing under or over activity. Slowly my periods are improving and I've stopped taking birth control which I used to help regulate my period and ease all my menstrual symptoms.
  4. My allergist, a very prominent allergist in San Francisco didn't help me at all, except to give me more meds.
  5. Homeless Celiacs

    I became very ill and could not work. My disability ran out, I went through my savings, was having problems getting any social services or SS. I had to get food from the food bank.(No, the food banks don't care about your food allergies, you're lucky to get what you get.) At this time I only knew about my soy allergy. I often didn't care and just ate food to eat food. When you're begging for food, being picky isn't exactly on the menu. The same was true when I was a starving art student. Ironically, I was so sick because of the celiacs. All the pain, depression, mood swings, stomach problems, skin problems etc. all because of food allergies. How much of my life did miss out on? I think there are so many sick, mentally ill, depressed, drug addicted people because of food allergies. How many of these homeless people wouldn't be homeless if they didn't have medical conditions stemming from an improper diet?

    It would be a good idea to read a few books on Celiac's. There's more to it than just not eating gluten. 1 week or even 1 months gluten free may not exhibit any improvements, for some people it does. It took 2 1/2 months before I felt real improvements. It can take up to 1-2 years for the intestines to fully heal. I've seen quite a few doctors and specialists, ironically only one GI doctor. The GI doctor was the first to suggest celiac testing. I then did some very basic research. It made sense, the sypmtoms fit! In my excitement, I started to go gluten free before taking my test. Then went back on gluten as soon as I read I must be consuming it. Anyhow, my GI md only ordered 1 kind of celiac blood test which was negative. He told me I had IBS, said there was no cure or pill, and that I could eat whatever I wanted. Then, prescribed me a pill and said to see a psychiatrist. At that point, I had been gluten free for a couple months, but I wasn't 100% gluten free from the beginning, because it's a process. I decided to stick with the gluten free diet, do more research and discipline myself on eating well, not just gluten free. I decided my doctor was a jackass, and terribly ignorant of how the body works. The doctor could have ordered other celiac tests, vitamin deficiency tests, he could have looked at the medical history I pain painstakingly typed up. Point being don't give up, do your homework, stay positive. There's alot of support here!
  7. In answering this question for myself, I would just want have"proof" to give to all my family and friends that I'm not a hypochondriac and I really am sick. All those years of problems aren't just because I'm crazy or too sensitive. The doctor only gave me 1 blood test. I started a gluten free diet then went back on gluten for 2 weeks before taking that test which came out negative. I didn't know at the time what was the right thing to do because the doctor never explained anything. Right after the blood test I continued gluten-free and eventually got better. Since the major improvements I don't think I could purposely eat what I deem to poison again. I do wish there was an easier way to prove my "medical condition" celiac or gluten intolerance. I also think it's important to have the proper diagnosis in case of an ER visit.

  9. Bad Mood Swings

    This is very helpful to me as well. I accidentally ate gluten on the 24th and was in severe pain the next day. (Why there was SOY SAUCE in hummus, I'll never know) I've been pretty depressed and anxiety ridden ever since. I didn't realize it was because of the gluten. I also started taking apple cider vinegar which cleared out my sinuses and is helping with healing. This helps transition the body by balancing the body's PH level, purging toxins, and reduces high glycemic cravings. It also help acclimate the taste buds to nongluten foods we aren't used to. I suggest organic apple cider vinegar. 2 teaspoons or capfuls diluted with water, drink with a straw. You can do this once a day, I've done as much as 3 times a day. As your ph balances, it does not taste as pungent.

    In addition to gluten withdrawal and gluten ingestion, eating too many high glycemic foods can make you "crash" and get irritable. It is common to turn to high glycemic foods when transitioning to gluten-free. I made the same mistake. The book Living Gluten Free for Dummies goes over this on pages 94-109.
  11. It is a potassium deficiency that is causing the leg cramps and can also cause nosebleeds. I eat bananas, gluten free multivitamin, and EmercgenC to replace the potassium. Sometimes I'll have 2-3 bananas a day. I have been gluten free for 2 months and now my leg cramps are better, not completely gone, but better.
