  1. Timing With Symptoms

    I get really tired almost immedietly, about 12 hours later I get REALLY hungry, and the brain fog and depression kick in and hang around for 2 days. Day 3 usually feels like I've swallowed a horse and find it hard to actually eat anything, day 4 I get really itchy but generally feel a lot better.. by day 5 and 6 I usually start to feel "normal" again.
  2. Depression?

    Depression is very common with Celiac. Most seratonin (80-90%) is found in our digestive tract and an imbalance of seratonin causes depression. As Celiac affects the digetive tract, it makes sense for depression to be a comon symptom of Celiac. Depression was one of my major symptoms and when I accidentaly ingest gluten, I fall back into a pit of darkness for a few days... usually around the 4th day, the depression starts to lift and I "normal" again. Hang in there, it will get better. Make sure you have eliminated EVERY little tinsy tiny bit of gluten from your diet. If you don't get better within a few weeks I would denifitly get a fup with your doc. Hope you feel better soon.
  3. Hunger Ups And Downs?

    I defnitly have hunger ups and downs. However for me it's when I get glutened that I have a ravanous appetite. It seems most Celiacs have these waves of hunger, though it is a little different for everyone. Some people find they are less hungry when going gluten-free others find they are more hungry.. but it all comes down to one thing... our bodies are depleted of nutrients!!! The way our bodies go about dealing with the nutrient shortage is a little different for everyone, hence the differences in hunger levels from celiac to celiac. I agree, try to balance out your meals and also try to make them more palatable.. bland rice isn't giving your tastebuds what they crave either! Try adding some honey (or cinamon if you don't want the sugar from honey), nuts and berries to your rice for breakfast. It will be tastier and will keep you full longer with the fat and protein from the nuts . What keeps me most full in the mornings is gluten-free bread with beanut butter and a banana I'm good for hours after that!
  4. Social Life/dating

    Jason, I can relate to this a lot. I'm recently diagnosed and am feeling very insecure about dating. Unfortunatly so much of dating revolves around food!!!! I keep wishing i could meet a celiac cause it would be so much easier!
  5. I ate this once... I baught a bar that was labeled gluten-free (this was in my very early gluten-free days!) I ate it THEN looked at the ingredients and to my horror I saw "barley grass" AND "wheat grass". I had no reaction to it and I'm pretty sensitive... but I don't think I would eat it again! I think it's a gamble... though it is supposedly gluten-free, i'm sure there is risk of cc.
  6. I also had the same problem after going gluten free. I loved my plain almonds and peanut butter but I seamed to react to them. I thought it may be the nuts I was reacting too but I could eat Larabars (they contain nuts and are labeled gluten-free) no problem. I emailed one company, "Compliments" (I'm in Canada, I think its a canadian brand) and their pb and slivered almonds are made on a shared lines.. so cc could be your prolem! I found a peanut butter (by Natur) which is labeled gluten-free and I don't react to it either!
  7. So, a lil' bit of a stupid move on my part... I walked into a bakery with a friend so she could get a loaf of bread earlier today... It was one of those bakeries where you could just smell the gluten in the air... Flour dust eveywhere!!!! ugh. I am now paying for it. This would be my first inhaled gluteneing and I'm curious what I'm in for. If you've been glutened by inhalation, how were your symptoms? Were they similar to when you ingest gluten??

  10. Hey everyone This is my first post.. been reading though the forum and there is some great information here. I've been gluten free for about 6 weeks now. I'm super sensitive and have had many accidents along the way and am still struggling at times!! I have a question regarding recycled materials... is it possible that they are contaminated with gluten? I'm not familiar with the process for recycling cartboard, plastic.. etc, so i dont know if gluten would be elimilated through the process? Or do you just have to cross your fingers and hope that the recycled paper in your paper towels wern't originally a pizza box? lol Be interested in hearing from anyone who has looked into this!! Thanks.
