  1. Whether this problem is caused by physical or psychological factors or some combination of both, you do sound like you have a lot of stress to deal with. I hope you'll feel better once you're married but I'm not surprised you're so tired with all the different things you juggle. Is there a way your could make life easier or calmer? Even if this doesn't solve the problem you've described, being less stressed might make it easier to be with. p.s. Have you tried taking milk of magnesia or other laxatives? MoM is very effective - best taken when you don't need to go out the next day! - but could help you avoid needing time off work.
  2. Regarding stress and work - my advice would be to remember that you come first and your health is more important than your job. It's also crucial to make sure you have a good work/life balance - you need those hours away from work to recover and recharge. And try to find ways to leave the stress behind when you leave at the end of the day. Good advice but hard to follow, I know - I struggle with the same problems. But stress does make my coeliac disease worse and I know it's important to try to give life as much priority as work.

    Hello, I lived in London until recently. A short-term apartment might be good - alternatively, a breakfast only hotel might be ok too, if there is a fridge in your room for storing food. For making food yourself, I would recommend Sainsbury's and M&S Food as supermarkets with good gluten labelling. There are lots of these around London. For restaurants, I would recommend the following, which also have several locations in London: - Leon (my favourite!) - Wetherspoons - La Tasca - Cafe Rouge I've also heard good things about an Italian place called Cotto (http://www.italiancotto.co.uk/) but I've not tried this myself. If you're on Facebook, there are various UK coeliac groups who are very helpful, including Gluten Free Guerillas. Hope your trip is useful and that your pain improves soon. All the best, India
  5. I'm sorry to hear that. I understood that cognitive problems are a part of Hashimoto's and they are my biggest problem at present - you have my sympathy.
  6. I think I may have to fight for the extra tests but I'll give it a go. Glad you've found a way to feel normal... I'm trying to remember what that's like. Your advice is appreciated
  7. Thank you for this extra info. I'll make a note of it all. Can the other tests show up something even if the TSH is normal? My wretched vitamin D always seems to be low. Also, do the thyroid hormones help, or are you stuck with the symptoms? I do hope you've had sme success with treatment x

  9. I recently had my TSH level tested and is is apparently fine. Are any additional or different tests needed if the problem is Hashimoto's rather than straightforward hypothyroidism? Thanks for any help you can give.
  10. Thank you for your replies. You're all so helpful. The thought of having RLS makes me despair as I already have a muscular condition which only improves if I can relax and this wretched twitching now appears whenever I try. I have stopped taking the vitamin c supplements. I've tried magnesium supplements in the past but I'll try them again and potassium. I'll also ask my doctor to test my iron levels. It's not caffeine as I finally kicked my soda habit as my new year resolution.
  11. Hi all, I'm having a problem with muscle spasms - mostly in my chest, but also my right leg and right thumb and occasionally other places. It only happens when I'm resting or trying to sleep. Sounds just like my husband's restless legs syndrome, but more widespread. I've been taking effervescent vitamin C tablets for about three weeks which contain maltodextrin. I'm in the UK so our maltodextrin may be different in nature. However, I know some people have a problem with it though, despite Coeliac UK saying it's safe. I've never had this problems before - could this be causing it? However, I've also been under an awful lot of stress and my body has often had a horrible habit of conjuring up a new health problem in response (including coeliac disease). Could this instead be a stress reaction? I'm already having difficulty sleeping and I've been awake and anxious all night. Between my husband's legs and now this, I jerk wide awake every time I'm almost asleep. Feels like I've reached a new low... Any help much appreciated. Thank you.
  12. If it's any help, my brain fog improved a lot when I started following a FODMAPs eating plan. Coeliac disease gave me several other food intolerances and fructose in particular turns my brain to mush. Also worth mentioning - a relative with much worse brain fog issues was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and the treatment made a remarkable difference. Took bloody ages because he's pretty young and not too overweight but it can affect people of any age or size. Hope things improve for you soon.
  13. Silencio - I've not had such a dramatic recovery but I can tell you that I do feel much better than I used to. My recovery was quite rough as I felt rather worse before I got better. After about eight months, I started figuring out my additional intolerances (soy, corn and FODMAPs) and that really helped. If you're not feeling better yet, keep looking for answers. Navigator - glad to hear you're doing so well!
  14. If you're going to do the gluten challenge, my advice would be not to overdo it. I was so determined to make sure that my result would be reliable that I probably ate far too much gluten and I'm pretty sure it slowed down my recovery tremendously Don't be tempted to eat more than you need to.
