  1. Hi Ya'll! I'm still pretty new to the gluten-free world. I've been clean for about a month and a half now and I feel great but I need some cooking help. I've been trying to stick with whole foods like I'm supposed to and I think it's going pretty well but I'm not a cook so I don't know what to do with veggies and beans. I'm pretty much living vegetarian right now. I'm mainly sauteing or roasting veggies and beans in olive oil and a little salt and pepper and eating them with quinua or rice. I've truly never felt better but I need more variety. Can anyone suggest a good whole food cookbook or website for recipes? I'm not ready for all the "gluten-free cooking" with the breads and replacing wheat-based foods with clean foods yet. I need to heal before I go there. I just want some good, healthy whole food recipes to vary my current rotation. I'm not opposed to eating meat or seafood, I just don't know what to do with it. I am truly not a cook. My husband usually does the cooking but now that I am gluten-free we cook separately. I need help!
  2. Does anyone know if the Lipton White Tea to Go packets that you pour into water are gluten free? I have been searching online but can't find any information. It has that annoying "natural flavor" listed in the ingredients. I'm trying to get off soda but need something to drink other than just plain water. I drink some hot teas but now that it's warm out that isn't as appealing. Any suggestions?
  3. Gf Make-up

Hi Madatgluten! First, let me welcome you to the group. I am very new to this gluten free thing as well (just about a month Gluten-Free) and I can tell you, you have come to the right place for help. Just be sure to check the date on forums. This one is very old and no one has added to it for a while so chances of getting response are lessened. I checked it out because I have been in the same boat. I am trying to replace all of my cosmetics and skin care with safe products and I have found it very frustrating to find information on what is safe and what isn't. I did find a new cosmetic company that I like. It's called Joelle cosmetics and it's completely gluten free. They produce mineral powder foundations like Bare Minerals but they are substantially cheaper. I have been using it for about a week now and I love it! Joelle can only be purchased online. I just started using Dessert Essence skin care as well. I tried the Pomegranate Facial wash and skin serum and I like it. Many of their products have tea tree oil (or melaluca) in them which I am allegic to so I have to be careful but I like what I have tried so far. I have heard wonderful things about their shampoos and conditioners so I am going to try them next. You can get them at Whole Foods or online. Online is a little less expensive. I hope this helps. Good luck.
  4. Gluten Headaches

I had a positive blood test for celiac in early January of this year but was not able to have a biopsy to confirm until mid March. I had to keep gluten in my diet for two months knowing it was what was making me sick. I did a brief test during that time and limited my gluten intake for about a week. I would basically eat gluten free but include one food that contained gluten everyday. I was shocked to learn that the headaches that I have been suffering for as long as I can remember were being brought on by gluten! Every time I ate gluten I would get a headache within a half an hour. I've been completely gluten free for two weeks now and my headaches have completely disappeared. I've had maybe two headaches in the last two weeks and they have been a direct result of a accidental "gluttening". I hope you will have similar results. It really has been wonderful to not be in pain all the time. Hang in there!
  5. Why Are Cosmetics So Frustrating?

Thanks everyone. I am trying to take all of this in but it's really overwhelming. I'm doing pretty well with food right now but I figure it makes sense to eliminate gluten in everything I use if I can. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and change things out slowly. Thanks for the advise.
  6. I have been searching everywhere for information on gluten free cosmetics but I can't find any current information. Am I missing something? I'm a newbie (just a week Gluten-Free) and I really want to try and replace all of my skin care and cosmetics as I need them but I can't figure out what is safe. Any suggestions? I really need mascara!
  7. Is There An App For That?

Hey WitchyWoman, I also have the Iphone app. "Is that Gluten Free?" and i have found it very helpful as a newbie. I don't really use the actual product list but I find the list of ingredients very helpful for reading labels. And, I like that there is an area with each product where you can take notes. I'm sure I won't use if forever but right now, while I am trying to learn what ingredients to watch out for, I really love it.
  8. I thought I would share an Ipod application I found that I think is extremely helpful. It's called "Is That Gluten Free?" and it's truly fabulous. It has lists of products (by category) with the information of when it was verified as gluten-free and a complete list of ingredients labeled as "safe" "unsafe" or questionable. You can also add your own notes on each product and ingredient. As a total newbie (less than a week gluten-free) I found this app so helpful for my first trip to the grocery store. Obviously, I would not only rely on the information on the app but it helped me to know what products to pick up to read the label. Just thought I would share. The app can be found on the App Store and it was only $8.00 to download. Totally worth the money in my opinion.
  9. How Long Till I Heal?

Thanks Mushroom and Chili! I appreciate the words of wisdom. I am starting to wonder if my medication is making me sick. I've been on Synthroid for about 7 years now and I just ran across a website last night that said it could contain gluten. I tend to feel worse at night which leads me to believe that it may be something I am taking regularly (I take Synthroid every morning). I am going to talk to my doctor about switching to the generic that is gluten-free. Thanks again!
  10. How Long Till I Heal?

First, let me start by saying I am so thrilled to have found this forum. I am about as newbie as they come. I started eating gluten-free on Tuesday so I've only been on the diet a few days. I already feel better but yesterday I started having symptoms again. My question is, is this normal or have I glutened myself? I felt so great for the first couple of days. It was really frustrating to suddenly have a pounding headache and stomach pains again. Should I not have these symptoms anymore?
