  1. I just have to echo everything that has been said. I never had digestive issues before going gluten free but I had lots of others. Now that I've been gluten free, I found out, the hard way, I have digestive issues when I accidently consume gluten. Ugh! The first few weeks are the hardest. I was starving all the time but eating lots of protein helped a ton. My dd was supportive but had no intention of eating gluten free. However, as I learned to cook differently, she actually prefers it now. It takes time for a family to adjust.
  2. Don't despair! It's hard sometimes but there are some good substitutes. I love almond milk and almond milk ice cream. Very good. Smart Balance has a good butter substitute. Cheese can be tough but Daiya is ok. You might get dairy back later too.
  3. Aw I'm sorry you had that happen on Mother's Day! I find mixed responses in my family. My daughter has been fantastic about it. My mom is trying to understand it more but won't get tested herself (she has IBS, MS and Fibromyalgia). So far the only real response she gives is a grunt and a "that sucks" when I explain what gluten free means. Hang in there and take care of you!
  4. Revlon Makeup?

    I use Bare Minerals. I'm very light as well and it works well with my skin tone. It's more expensive than Revlon but it lasts forever. I have a hard time with makeup matching too. I think you can buy at Target now but you can go by their stores in the mall or Sephora and get a sample first.
  5. Celiac Disease And Anxiety

    Yes! I believe my anxiety is directly related to gluten and casein. I've battled anxiety on and off for a long time but a couple of years ago before I gave up dairy, my anxiety was unbearable. Every little thing would trigger it and it would last all day. I gave up dairy and it improved as did some of my other symptoms but it was still there. Since going gluten free, I haven't had a bad anxiety attack, only some smaller "moments" of anxiety. Those seem to be related to getting glutened about a little over a week ago. I think I will always be prone to anxiety but it is NOTHING like it used to be.

    Mnicole - convincing family is tough. I've been trying to get my mom to get tested. She was diagnosed with IBS over 20 years ago, has MS and Fibromyalgia...tons and tons of symptoms but she hasn't agreed yet. Every time we talk I share the positive changes I'm finding and every so often I suggest she think about it. She's stubborn but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree so I'll keep trying! Focus on the positive with your mom. Maybe you can convince her.

  9. First Real Gutening - Ugh!

    Crissy - As long as I eat "real" food, I do ok. Fruit, veggies, some meat now, rice, etc. Sauces, spices and packaged food are the big threat for me. MSG has a bunch of "hidden" names and sometimes it is hard to tell. I do better avoiding it now that I'm gluten-free. We have a good spice shop here in CO that has tons of gluten free spices that are also msg and soy free and that helps a lot. I don't do well with much soy either.
  10. First Real Gutening - Ugh!

    Thanks everyone. I'm really drinking the water up as we speak. I take allergy pills every day and I read (here maybe?) that can help with reactions too so I'm hoping. I'm trying to trace over my meals yesterday and see what it might have been. I noticed my tummy was off last night before bed but the sinus stuff hit like a truck this morning. Irish - MSG is a good point. I usually get migraine headaches MSG. I'll check for that as well.
  11. Hi everyone, I am positive I glutened myself yesterday - still trying to figure out what exactly but I think it was a seasoning I bought. It's the first big screw up I've made since I went gluten-free (had a taste of gluten sauce by accident last month) and it is an excellent reminder to myself to be more careful! I should have read more carefully. My stomach is upset, belching, eyes sore and my sinuses are on fire today. I'm sitting in my office with the lights off because of the headache. I haven't felt this bad for a while. *sigh* Thanks for reading, I just needed to whine a bit to people who have been there.
  12. I haven't tried baking anything yet though I really want to. I just don't know where to start! The flour combinations are a little intimidating for me and I haven't wanted to spend money on stuff I might not like. I'm going to have to give it a try though. I'm missing certain things.

  14. I've used Daiya as well and it is pretty good. I've found it at Whole Foods and the big King Soopers in my area (Colorado). I haven't checked Vitamin Cottage but a friend of mine said she's see it at a couple of the bigger stores.
  15. Oh I hope this is true! I've The last few years I've had what I thought were year round "allergies" but alas, it was massive infections and gluten. Now that I've been off the gluten a couple of months, I can tell the difference and I feel like this is the first spring in a long time that I've had "real" allergies. It is amazing what we get used to! These allergies are much nothing as intense as my gluten "allergies" so it is a welcome change but I would love for them to fade a bit.
