  1. Simple (Or Specific) Carbohydrate Diet?

    SCD worked miracles for me, but I would slowly cut out different things, one at a time. I'd start with sugar, then soy, corn, other grains, nuts, peanuts and other legumes... All of those are (mostly) illegal on the diet. Unfortunately, I found the diet and strictly adhered to it immediately. I may very well be able to tolerate many of the "illegal" SCD ingredients, but I'll never know because I'm too afraid to upset the great feeling I have right now. I do know, however (After a couple oopses) that sugar is one of the main culprits. Since carbohydrates are complex sugars, my logic is that grains would be just as troublesome for me. Or you can just do what I did if you're too busy to feel sick all the day, cause 'ain't nobody got time for dat.
  2. I had the same issue, except it was almost 2 1/2 years after I started the gluten-free diet. I would try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and I only say that because you mentioned starches and carbs. I'm really not the type to tell someone "This worked for me, it will work for you," but it might point you in the right direction.   3. I've been having some crazy success with the diet, but I just have some questions for anyone else that's followed it longer. This is my main concern: Before SCD, I have alternating, almost constant, C and D. It was horrible, and it was impossible to predict which days I'd need to stick around a toilet and which ones would render it obsolete. It was one of my many unbearable symptoms. And it's gone! The (vicious) cycle has been broken, I'm a free man! But, um... While I feel great (And have lost plenty of weight), I still have C. I'm not sure what's going on. I don't feel bloated, I'm dropping pounds, food is going in, almost nothing is coming out. I maybe have one or two bowel movements a week. It's weird, because I urinate a lot more than before. Is this a cause for concern? I feel great (unless I don't eat enough, then my body hates me because I have a very active job), but it's just... Not coming out. I used to have a serious dehydration issue so I drink water as much as I'm able. I eat what I can, but it consists of high meat content, with fruits and vegetable thrown into the mix. Please help me out, I'd really appreciate it! Also: Has anyone found any can't-haves NOT outlined in the SCD diet? I Recently found out I have a strange sensitivity to bananas. Also, I have a pre-existing issue with Casein that gives me mind-obliterating migraines after excessive consumption. Thank you!

    I've been "gluten free" for over a year now. I only say "gluten free" because I still had intermittent bouts of illness and only recently found the final source of gluten in my life. I'd attributed my illness to accidents until I read about Rice Dream and their controversial barley enzymes. Holy crap! I've been drinking that for a while. Before I even knew what gluten was. Why didn't I look that up? Anyway, I changed milk brands 5 days ago and rejoiced in slaying the final bit of gluten in my life. After a day or so, my stomach was constantly in discomfort. I was gassy, had some mean D, and even more rampant dehydration with it. A day later, the symptoms were still there, along with a headache and the feeling that I was going to pass out. I felt week, I couldn't understand what was going on. Then it clicked and searched online for Gluten withdrawals. I just want some advice, because I had no idea it was going to get so much worse before it got better! I've slept with the garbage next to my bed for the last 3 nights. I'm already taking probiotics and doing my best to hydrate myself... I've seen people say it lasted weeks, even months! Should I expect a quicker recovery since I was ingesting a relatively small amount of gluten, rather than an average gluten-filled diet? Is there anything else I can do to make this go even slightly quicker? Thank you!
  6. Hi, I'm new to this board and I just wanted some advice on a subject that has truly concerned me for a while, now. At the end of 2009, I weighed close to 300 pounds. Wow! It was bad, and I was only 20 years old, nearly 21. After I turned (21), I decided that was it. I was sick of being fat, unhappy and unhealthy. I lost about 45 pounds, and then I fell very ill as I had at various points in my life. After I got over that illness, I went back to the gym and dropped even more weight. I was closing in on the 200 pounds mark but I got even sicker. I battled hard until last year, when I discovered my wheat sensitivity. I was 22 at the time, and I'm 23 right now. After cutting out wheat, I lost nearly 15 pounds in 2 weeks, and I felt damn amazing. I felt great and I was so glad I could continue my journey to a healthy weight. I was wrong, though. TLDR; I was a big guy who lost a lot of weight between multiple cycles of extreme illness. This is my current predicament. I simply have no energy to work out, you know? I manage a food food establishment, and I work very hard. That never stopped me, though. I went to the gym and it brought me even more energy for work. But now, I don't eat a lot of carbs. Since I'm a manager, I don't get to leave the store to eat and I can count my (very unfilling) food options on one hand. Also, I don't get a lot of time to eat, and I work for long periods of time without food. Also, sadly, I don't make a whole lot of money. Gluten free food is expensive and I honestly can't afford to bring food to work every day when my grocery bill stacks up as it is. I know it's my diet. After only an hour of looking, I discovered Rabbit Starvation. Too much protein and not enough carbs or fat, and it sounds right on the nose. So there are my questions to any of you great people that might be able to help! 1) Could my issue be rabbit starvation, realistically? 2) Is it a common issue with any particular group of people? 3) What would or do, or have you done, to avoid it? 4) What steps would you recommend so that I can work out without feeling terrible and out or energy. Again, my budget is tight. I know you're all thinking "Get a better job!" but I actually like my job most of the time, and I plan to stay until I finish college in a few years. Any help would be great, you have my gratitude just for reading this! Jeremy
