  1. Leah, have you found the Michigan Capital Celiac Support Group? They are awesome! Here's their website: http://micapitalceliacs.atspace.com/ I don't know if you are near Lansing, but if you are anywhere near there, they are a good group to get in touch with. They run an annual food fair, a summer camp for kids, meetings throughout the year that are sometimes potlucks or sometimes with a speaker, and they have an excellent newsletter that they will e-mail to you. -Valerie (momma to the Gluten-Free Ann Arbor group - currently at 726 people!)
  2. I think brown rice syrup is safe -- it's just rice, isn't it? I've bought Lundeberg brand, and I know that that brand is very careful about being gluten-free. However, I recently discovered that my toddler and I react to hempmilk. I read that hemp seeds are grown by farmers who also grow barley, so I guess some cross-contamination must be occurring. I ran across someone online who use a home gluten test kit to test a bunch of brands of hempmilk for gluten, and she said they all came up positive and were a big problem for her and her family. Sigh.... -Valerie
  3. My toddler and I have been having a gluten-reaction to Hemp Bliss brand of hemp milk. I'd been trying hard to track down what in his diet he was reacting to, and I posted on an online forum. A mom there said that she used a home gluten test kit for every brand and flavor of hempmilk that she could find, and they all tested positive for gluten. She said she talked to a company that manufactures it, and they told her that the farmers who grow hemp seeds also grow barley. So, based on her advice, I dropped hempmilk from my family's diet. And it turns out that it was the thing that my toddler and I were reacting to -- the difference is huge and dramatic, especially in my toddler. The box says, "Gluten-Free" right on it, so I am very frustrated. -Valerie
