  2. I, too, use Dove mousse and hairspray without problems. I have very curly hair and the mousse seems to tame it quite well. The hairspray also works great...I use it to control wispies during performances and it holds even when I'm sweating under those hot stage lights. Macy
  3. CHOCOLATE Viactiv!! My daily 3 of these foil-wrapped wonders have been helping me rebuild my poor osteoporetic bones which...keeps me dancing (the other thing I can't live without)! Macy
  4. Canned Food?

    When I go on tour (ballet company stays in hotels), I always pack my own food. Some of my favorites include: Tasty Bite Madras Lentils (can boil or microwave)-yummy on rice and very filling Annie Chun's Rice Express (fresh, already-steeamed rice bowls) GoGo Rice Pre-Cooked Seasoned Rice Bowls, Hawaiian (high calorie for when you're really hungry) Chicken-of-the-Sea Tuna or Salmon in those flat, mylar packages Maranatha Peanut Butter Plain Nuts Bags of Orgran Muesli Glutino Breakfast Bars Dole Fruit Cups Bumble Bars LaraBars Ditto on the Potatoes...I always pack them in my suitcase and get the weirdest looks Annie's Natural Salad Dressings (the gluten-free ones of course)-come in individual serving packs Plain popcorn and brown paper lunch bags + microwave = tasty treat when everyone else is eating gluten-filled junk (I have yet to start a fire by doing it this way) Have fun!   6. Simply rinse off the pre-cut fruit! I do it all the time when I'm on the road and want something different/nutritious to eat. Yes, it does remove some of the flavor and vitamins...but I'd rather be safe than sorry with regard to cross-contamination. My friends laugh at me <shrugs>. EAT YOUR FRUIT!!! Macy

It's fat-free, gluten-free (labeled so right on the container), has no cross-contamination risks, and contains 8 live active cultures. It's all-natural, fruit-juice sweetened, not derived from rBGH-treated cows, and available in 10 flavors. I represented the United States at the World Tap Dance Championships in Lujubljana, Slovenia...and spent several days in Prague as well. It's one of my favorite cities! Macy

    My sincere thanks to everyone who replied to my query! I'm very slowly figuring out the different sections of Manhattan. From what you told me, Anna Isabel, Risoterria is in the West Village. I think that Greenwich Village is part of the West Village...right? I have an appointment with NYU-Tisch's Dance Department on one day and an interview in NYU's Chemistry Department on another day...and since NYU is in (correct me if I'm wrong) Greenwich Village, that would mean TWO trips to Risoterria!!!! And one will be a Tuesday for their special pasta night!!! YEY! When you said to "take the 1 or the 9 to Christopher Street" to get get to Upper Manhattan, are those subway lines or bus lines? Someone told me that it is dangerous to take the subway, especially at night. True?? I'm very naive about public transportation. jkmunchkin, thank you for Anne Roland Lee's phone number. One of the reasons I'm looking at Columbia University is because of their Celiac Disease Center. I'm planning a double major in dance and biochemistry with an emphasis in nutrition. I'm very interested in biochem research and hope to be a slave to one of their researchers as soon as possible. If a dance career doesn't work out for me, or if it is very short-lived, I'll be prepared for graduate school and celiac research of some kind. mookie03, thanks to you too for the Sambuca suggestion. I'll also be visiting Juilliard at Lincoln Center, so that sounds perfect! I think I'm more excited about finally getting to eat out than visiting these schools. Macy

    Hello New Yorkers! I so excited! I will be traveling to New York in two weeks. My first trip to this huge city!! I will be in the Morningside Heights area of Manhattan and will be visiting Columbia University, Barnard College, NYU and Juilliard. Since my diagnosis two years ago, I have never eaten in a restaurant. I'm super sensitive and asymptomatic...so I'm really nervous. I tried to talk my mom into bringing all of my food, but she says it's time to trust myself in choosing places where I can eat...especially since I'm getting ready to go away to college in another year. Can you Manhattanites help me in finding some celiac-friendly restaurants within walking distance of the Union Theological Seminary (3041 Broadway at 121st Street). This is where I'll be staying...it's right next to Columbia University and Barnard. I'm from a small town, so I'm a little scared about wandering too far away from UTS. I would prefer to not have to take a taxi if possible. Thank you for your help! Macy

  12. Another thirty days have gone by, and I get to add back another gluten-free porduct to my . Since I'm asymptomatic when I get glutened, I need everybody's help!! Has anybody had problems with Thai Kitchen's Thai Peanut Stir-Fry Noodles? It's gluten-free, of course...says so right on the package. The rice noodles are produced in a dedicated facility, but the gluten-free seasoning packet is not. Looking forward to something new for dinner this weekend!! Thank you! Macy
  13. My mom brought home three boxes of Lundberg's Risotto for me to try: Garlic Primavera, Creamy Parmesan, and Butternut Squash. I am verysensitive to minute amounts of gluten, but have no symptoms, so I never know when I've been glutened or what product did it. I completely trust Lundberg Farms in terms of cross-contamination with their rices and rice cakes. However, I have never eaten a boxed mix from them. The ingredients appear to be gluten-free, but I'm worried about such ingredients as spices (black pepper, ginger, nutmeg, sage, dried garlic, dried parsley, tumeric, and paprika extract). I know that spices, in and of themselves, are gluten-free, but I also know that most of them are not produced on dedicated lines (according to McCormick). So, I rely on all of you! Has anybody had problems with this product? Thank you!! Macy
  14. Didn't even consider that a dig! I'm not being put on it to avoid pregnancy, but rather, to restore hormone levels (to keep my bones healthy with estrogen) and so I can shed the uterine lining every 4 months. Since my osteoporosis help lead my doctor in the direction of celiac, she has since been very concerned about my bone health. The patch wouldn't be a good option for me as I don't want to have periods every month if I don't need to. I dance ballet. Partnering and skimpy costuming make periods a worry. But if the Seasonal doesn't work, patches would be an excellent option for me. I didn't even think of questioning my doctor about the absorption at the time...I just thought of it. I suppose I should leave a message for her tomorrow and ask this very question.
  15. My endocrinologist is putting me on Seasonal in a couple weeks. I'm 17, weigh 85 pounds, and have never had a period...we're concerned about my bone health. She has confirmed that it is gluten-free. My question is this...if I'm still not absorbing nutrients well right now, will I be able to absorb the hormones in the pill? Thank you.
