Is Mister Softee Gluten Free?

My first summer with Celiac Disease approaches and the jingle is in the air.  Does anyone know if Mister Softee Ice Cream is Gluten Free?  I went on the website and downloaded the ingredients:

But I'm still pretty new to this, so I'm not too sure about the whey and cargeenan (sp?)

Assuming I can handle the lactose, I'd love to have a bit of an indulgence this summer (I will miss my sugar cones, though...)

Thanks.

Whey is the leftover liquid from cheese making and is safe. Carrageenan is seaweed. As for the safety of getting soft serve from an ice cream truck? Questionable at best, not something I would be doing although others may have different opinions.

You'll want to check out the newbie thread if you haven't already. It has links to lists of safe ingredients and will help you learn to read labels and lists. http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/

I think soft serve ice cream is pretty safe. It comes from the machine into a cup. I get Dairy Queen sometimes.

The ice cream is gluten-free, but the sugar cones it is often served in are not.

Mister Softee ice cream is gluten free.  However, we checked with our cone manufacturer and their cones are NOT gluten free.  They did not know of any cone manufacturer whose products are gluten free.  Hope this helps.  Enjoy the ice cream !

Wow.  Direct from the company - thanks Mr. Softee!  Dare I ask (since I have your attention) if the sprinkles and chocolate dip might be ok?

Sometimes, a poster has his account set up to get an email if you " quote" their post. Maybe he will see this?

Mr. Softee - there are gluten-free cones but they are pricey. Most of us just like to be able to get a bowl with or without toppings. :)
