Help Interpretting Results

I was recently told by my doctor I might have Celiacs. He is not pushing for a biopsy but won't give me a difinitive answer.here are the lab results

 

Endomysial Antibody, Iga  - Negative

Deamidated Gliadin Abs, Igg 2 (normal 0-19)

T-Transglutaminase (Ttg) Igg  <2 (normal 0-5)

T-Transglutaminase (Ttg) Iga <2 (normal 0-3)

Deamidated Gliadin Abs, Iga HIGH 132 (normal 0-19)

Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum HIGH 981 (normal 91-414)

 

I also have Crohn's disease diagnosed in 1998 and confirmed through biopsy. Not sure if that could skew these results. The testing was done by LabCorp.  Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

page 12 of the World Gastroenterology Organisation Global Guidelines of April 2012,

 says that DGP-IgA has a specificity of 93 to 96%

so that sounds good enough for me to send you for an endoscopy.

 

I don't know what more proof your doctor needs to send you for the endoscopy when there are people

on this forum who had negative blood tests and still get sent for an endoscopy.

You should ask your doctor for blood tests for your liver and an utlrasound of your liver.

Thank you for this information. Does specificity mean that it is 93 to 96 % accurate at predicting people with Celiacs when confirmed by endoscopy?

 

As for liver function, I have my liver function tested every three months due to some of the meds I take for my Crohn's. I also forgot to mention that I was very deficient in Vitamin D.

My understanding is that the Celiac blood test's specificacy listed are for detecting Celiac prior to an endoscopy.

 

For vitamin D, do get tested for D1.25 as my D .25 was low normal but my D 1.25 was too high.

 

I don't know if the meds are causing your single DGP-IgA positive results but do read the article posted.

That test result pattern has an association with liver problems.

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
