Hi all,

I am thinking of starting a gluten challenge, and i read recommendations like 3g of gluten/day for x number of weeks.

How much is 3g of gluten? In terms of bread, pasta, pizza slices....

Thanks!!!

No idea about the 3 grams of gluten.  U. of Chicago says 1/2 slice of bread or 1 cracker a day is what they recommend for a gluten challenge.  12 weeks for blood tests; 2 weeks for endoscopy.

Thanks a lot for you reply manasota!

I am asking this question because i read this article: Open Original Shared Link, where they claim that 14 day GC at ≥ 3 g of gluten/day is enough

14 day sounds way better than 12 weeks, and i am curious to see how much food that corresponds to

Thanks!

Thanks for your help manasota

My only reference to the 14 days is that article. I d like to get tested, and i would not like to do a longer than needed GC...

Does anybody have any experience with the celiac testing kits that you buy in pharmacies? Not sure if they are relieble, but I was thinking that i could try using them after 14 days (every 7 days if negative), and go to get proper blood tests once the result of the kit is positive

So, if after 14 days is positive i go to see the doctor. If not, I keep the GC until either the kit says I am celiac positive, or the GC is longer enough to get blood tests

Thank s

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
