Anyone gene savvy and can decode?

Hi everyone!

im sure questions like this are asked quite a bit. I've been having GI issues as long as I can remember. I've had a few tests but then just gave up and decided it was just IBS.

I recently paid to have my ancestry genetics translated into health risks, etc.

I cannot for the life of me figure out if this could be a gene associated with celiac or not. If it turns out to be I will mention to my doctor and hopefully solve these awful GI problems! :) if it's not then I'll keep calling it IBS.

I will insert screenshots as well as type the data.

It seems to list "gene" as HLA-DQA1 and then it looks like I inherited 2 alleles which are both HLA-DRB1*0301

When I google "genes associated with celiac" other genes come up and this either appears to be in a different format (maybe others are shortened versions? Or unrelated?)

It lists Lupus and celiac disease as concerns... I would love to have a real answer (or at least new path for my doctor to investigate!) to these stomach issues I've always had but if it's not celiac I suppose I can settle with IBS a bit longer! :)

Thanks everyone!!!

(I was particularly confused by the "gene" vs alleles part as one looked like it could be celiac related and the other I had no idea!)

I am not a genetic expert, but the reality is that some 30% of the population has the genes that can develop into celiac disease (rare about 1% or so).  Genetic testing is used to rule out celiac disease, not to diagnose it.  You should ask your doctor to order a complete celiac blood panel.  Learn more about testing from the University of Chicago:

I personally would never take an IBS diagnosis which in my mind means, "I be Stumped!"  Not saying you have celiac disease, but there is something causing your IBS symptoms.  Keep advocating for your health.  ?

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
