Looking For Karen From Braintalk

Sorry to intrude like this...but the Braintalk Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac Disease forum crashed about a month ago and has not returned, and unfortunately some of us have lost touch! I suspect many are scattered among the various other Celiac Forums. I am looking for Karen (founder of MADD (not mothers against drunk drivers)), and mother of Ted. If anyone knows where Karen is, could you please let her know I am looking for her. She can contact me through http://jccglutenfree.googlepages.com/ .

I'd love to hear from other displaced Braintalkers, too!

Thanks,

Cara (jcc)

Hello! I was a brain talker too. I miss the forum so much! Has anyone heard any updates from the admins?

So sad to think the wonderful Gluten File is gone!

Hi Cara and Nancy, I was on BT to and I really miss it, is there any chance that it will ever come back?

Patricia :)

Hi Nancy!

Someone suggested that I put The Gluten File out on a website, so I did. It is not the same, though, because without the forum to go with it...well, its just not the same! It is also missing all the great discussion threads that were attached to each section. But, at least, for those interested in this sort of information..it is still there. Thank goodness a couple of people suggested I make a back up copy a couple of years ago. My backup was from a year ago, so it may be missing a few things.

As far as I know, nobody has heard anything from John Lester about getting the board back up. There are murmurs from other BTers (gluten forum and others) about setting up a new forum. If there ever is another site that comes up I will certainly include it in the Favorite Links section of The Gluten File...so book mark the site...and check back periodically. I don't think it would happen before October.

Hi Turner~

People are losing hope that it will come back. There have been no updates, which to me, is a bad sign. Still, there are so many displaced people...on our board, and also the others like MS, Chronic Pain, PN, Child Neurology, Epilepsy, Spinal Disorders, and more. As I just mentioned, there are a few murmers from some longstanding BTers about starting up a new board. So far just talk, but stay tuned. I would definately put it somewhere in TGF if something opens up, so keep an eye out. Again, I don't think it would be anytime before October.

I'm really missing it too. The people :).

It sure will be a sorry day if Bt never comes back, there were so many people on there that were getting help and information. I know there is no other site like it, still keeping my fingers crossed that it will come back. Patricia

Wow! That's excellent you made a backup of it. And you did such a beautiful job. It really is beautifully formated. I just read your story about the gluten sensitivity self-diagnosis, it was wonderful!

    • Just for your information - Celiac disease is not a "gluten allergy".
    • Hello! Not sure if this has been posted before, as I did not see it. But as you all know a lot of us have problems with getting enough nutrients and even those like me that don't, its also just as important.  *Tangent* I think as a society, not just America but in the UK as I noticed while living there and I am sure other territories as well, we seem to ignore one of the biggest vitamins of all - WATER. 55-65% of our body is made up of this crazy vitamin. Not only does it help in our most crucial bodily functions, but it also aids in the building of our cells. Specifically those with celiacs, it is vital in the aiding of fixing the problems we have with not getting enough nutrients. After removing gluten from our diets, our bodies need to work SO hard to get itself back to as normal composition as possible. Water helps build our cells back up, carries nutrients, brings oxygen to our brains, and so so much more. I just want everyone to keep this in mind whilst continuing their journey through this confusing disease.  Please please, I urge you to drink your 64 oz of water a day!
    • Atkins is bad for your body, ketosis for the most part is fine (depends on your body). People who intake too much fat while trying to go through ketosis are at risk for stones. I think your route is the best though to be honest. Sweet potatoes and some antioxidant enriched fruits are a good source of carbohydrates while having a low-carb diet.
    • Hi all.  I'm new to this forum and so happy to be able to ask questions.  I'm a makeup hound and realize I will need to start replacing.  I'm acquiring Arbonne products and really like what I'm using.  I have tons of lipstick and, obviously, need to make some changes quickly.  DLoes anyone know which of the higher end department store brands are safe.  I've been an avid Lancome, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Clinique person, but I am fearful to use anything but my Bite lipstick now.  Would appreciate your wisdom.
    • Growing up my Dad was a competitive bodybuilder.  He would go into ketosis before competitions.  He knew because he used pee strips.  I thought ketosis was hard on a person, as in bad for your body. Personal update:  I have been grain free for a few days now and have almost completely avoided brain fog.  I still eat sweet potatoes so I am getting enough carbs and sleeping well.  I weigh the same and I am happy! Friday is my colonoscopy and endoscopy to see how I am doing now at the 1 year mark.  I also have eosinaphalic esophagitis, hiatal hernia and GERD.
