Now . .. . . .where was I . .. . it could barely have been better at an MCS convention or if invitations had declared a Fragrance-Free Zone!!

No candles, colognes or perfumes at all!!

The two times I smelled anything may have both been scented lotions :o and they weren't even potent enough to distinguish the culprit!

Maybe it's a trait of the serious recreational tennis player. They all play on the same teams in leagues.

Party was fun! :D Not dancin'-on-the-tables fun, but fun nonetheless. (Did I say that already?)

The hostess is a photography artist <there's a word for that, right?> and the house was full of interesting and sometimes maybe great photos. And her sister is a painter who contributed at least 5 good abtracts & abstract expressionisms. (????)

Had some laughs w/ more than a few.

There was a gift exchange w/ a twist. Numbers had been chosen from a hat and for someone's turn they could "steal" a gift already opened or pick one to open.

A few gag gifts and/or risqu

We also share the house with a hermit crab we bought on the boardwalk in May and survived this long....which is interesting since it was bought at one of those shops that keeps hermit crabs in big wire wagon cages.....

:D:lol:

Tom, you are teasing us!

:P

Then, arrrrrgh, the connection issues started!! I'd expected to finish quickly. :(

C'mon over, we can have a cup of coffee!

Hehe yer on! :D

Lemme bring the Oaxacan!

Well, I am the last person to correct anyone as my grammar is crap . . . but shouldn't it be New Year's day.

I just couldn't resist! :lol::lol:

GAHHHH!!!! :P

(yes, we use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of who is giving what and how much has been spent)

Oh how ye brag about your organisational skills!!!!!

Mine is buy it - shove it in wardobe - forget where abouts (find it many months later)- check bank balance when feeling brave

This is kind of weird, but the years that I smoked (age 16-24) were the most symptom-free of my whole life.

It could have been the Celiac "teenage honeymoon", but who knows? I know of 2 other Celiac smokers that are not bothered by the smoke.

I've never admitted this to anyone, but I've been half-tempted to try it again to see how it would affect me. At the same time, I know I shouldn't.....I probably won't, but still

Patti - did I ever tell you that Terry's symptoms really kicked in at his first attempt of giving up (about a yr before dx)...he went back to it - and the smoke never bothered him either

....but DON'T do it!! I FORBID IT!!!!! (Tis true - reformed smokers are the worst!! ;) )

SO MUCH to do today (what am I doing here?? )

Much baking of mince pies and sausage rolls but also have to cook a Christmas Dinner for my coeliac son.

All the kids are having xmas dinner for lunch at his school tomorrow - and although he could take in his usual packed lunch - I'd hate to see him left out :( ....Tis a pain in the arse though (stupid bloomin celiac disease  )

I may be lost in the vortex of my kitchen for some time

A very snowy good morning to all...!

Well, Peter, I hope you're on the road by now. We fell short of our expected 60 cm, and got, officially, 38. But as you say, Peter, there are drifts three times that size. I will take a picture of my back deck, as well. I honestly thought we'd lose Gus as he tried to plow through it last evening...just saw his head for a bit...

Now, the kids had a rollicking time last night. They disappeared downstairs for some time and reappeared for cake. They had found our hallowe'en paraphranelia, and Jack and Evan had spray-painted Sam's hair bright blue. This stuff comes out with repeated washings, and Sam, with a mischievious smile spreading across his face, quietly says to me, "...and we're getting our family Christmas portrait done tomorrow"...

Man. Luckily, his dad did not come into the house when he came to get Sam. I just shoved him out the door into the howling snowsquall, his hat crammed down.

What "so much"??

Brought clothespins and spares! What's to tell?

 How romantic...got an intimate conversation going on, and you suddenly reach for your pocket..."hey, just a sec...gotta get me one of these..."

John's NY Giants are not doing so well tonight...he is not happy.LOL

Well, I'm very happy. My Senators are doing very well... :)

Party was fun! :D Not dancin'-on-the-tables fun, but fun nonetheless.

Well, that is because you need Queen Bev and I for that...Just not gonna happen without us! ;)

The hostess is a photography artist <there's a word for that, right?> and the house was full of interesting and sometimes maybe great photos. And her sister is a painter who contributed at least 5 good abtracts & abstract expressionisms. (?? ??)

Gaaaawwwdd...a house full of artists...

Had some laughs w/ more than a few.

There was a gift exchange w/ a twist. Numbers had been chosen from a hat and for someone's turn they could "steal" a gift already opened or pick one to open.

This gift-giving game is big around here. It's called a Chinese auction, but no idea why...now I'm curious about it. I've got no work right now at the Chinese Embassy. Hmmmmm...anyone?

Well, I think I'd like to hear more about THIS!

HOW semi-clothed? Like "thank god I have a full house in strip poker" semi-clothed?

.....Yeah, about like that... :o:lol:

Oh how ye brag about your organisational skills!!!!!

Mine is buy it - shove it in wardobe - forget where abouts (find it many months later)- check bank balance when feeling brave

This is my enviable approach also....

Where are you? I'm ready for my coffee! Is the coffee from Oaxaca? It doesn't have those mushroom in it that Oaxaca is famous for, does it?

So, you had a good time! And no smells! I notice that fewer and fewer people our age wear cologne/perfume, etc. It must bother a lot of people.

Then there are those who wear too much ....

Well goodmorning all, a very cold windy and icy morning to everyone! I didn't sleep well so I am looking forward to going home after work and curling up on the couch.

Hope you get a nice rest this evening! Too bad you didn't get a little more snow and ice so you could just stay at home!

I don't know how I missed the Excel Sheet comment .... ... how do you have time for THAT? I have a steno notebook, I handwrite their wish lists on the left side (each kid has their own page), then I write what I've purchased on the right side. I don't keep track of the dollar amount ... it seems as the kids get older they want more expensive stuff .... but they're also looking more for quality than for quantity when they get older, so it balances out .... anyway, Excel ? My way is primitive, but I like it that way! And, I can take it right to the store with me and make changes as I go!

I have been having troubles sleeping lately, but nothing like what I went through last night. I just kept tossing and turning and then wandering around the house...and I used sleep aids last night, nothing was working....it was horrible.

Hey Carla, did you know they have these fancy new thingamabobs called PRINT-ERS. It will write everything on a piece of paper that I have written into my spreadsheet! That way I can take a piece of paper to the store, too! :P

And if you think I'm bad, my husband is far worse . . . on our first trip to Disney, he did all this research on what times to hit what rides, which days to go to which parks, ride height requirements, blah, blah, blah and then had it laminated so that we could carry it with us each day without it getting ruined!

Just have to tell you all that my son put Bacon on his Christmas Wish List!!! (He takes after his father.)

I have to take Ambien to sleep at all ... I take half a one at bedtime, then half when I wake up four hours later .... it's because of the Lyme ....

  Yeah, but I can make CHANGES to my list in the store! It worked before I had a printer, so I never changed my method. ;)

That other way sounds WAY TOO ORGANIZED! I was always somewhat of a perfectionist ... but six kids and chronic illness has pretty much cured me of that!

So, Tom, you promise me this great coffee, then you are a no-show!:lol:

I am looking into Ambien, I started having sleep issues in the spring, but only on work nights. I am not stressed, I actually like my job and all....I just struggle getting to sleep, once I get to sleep I am fine..

I have both kinds of insomnia, I can't fall asleep or stay asleep. Ambien will probably work great for you. You probably won't have to do the stupid middle of the night dose like I do! The Ambien CR gave me an hour more sleep, but that put it to 5 hours, so it still didn't get me through the night, so I stick with the regular stuff in a split-dose.

Have you tried L-tryptophan, valerian root, and melatonin? I tried the natural stuff first ....

I just tried the stuff I listed .... I tried each for several days .... with the natural stuff, it has to build up in your system, it's not like a sleeping pill. Eventually I tried all three things together .... I was very RELAXED, but still AWAKE! LOL

Someone told me valerian essential oil on the pillow will make you sleep, but I haven't tried that .... she said when she did it, both she and her husband overslept and previously they never needed an alarm!

My printer is playing up so that plan wouldn't work ;) (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)

*nodding head* ah yes - laminating the spread sheet - very wise - forward planning. I possess none of these skills (or a laminator - not to be confused with a terminator)

Just have to tell you all that my son put Bacon on his Christmas Wish List!!! (He takes after his father.)

Isn't it on every young boy's wish list????

Wow....never needing an alarm to oversleeping. That must be powerful stuff :)

I ALWAYS need an alarm to get up - I never seem to get enough sleep

Ideally I would go to bed at 11.00pm and get up around 9.30 - 10.00 am (NOT in this lifetime!!! )

....Back to the kitchen....MORE COOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dear gawd these herbal sleep remedies of which you speak - - - I could take all of them, entire bottles, and STILL multi-task all night........ I went for actual drugs about a decade ago, for sleeping.

.....and drugs for other things, such as my back, this summer. But, I guess I thought I was funnier than everyone else did on Saturday..............when my neck was out.......dear gawd, what did I write on here? too askeert to go back.....I WAS having quite a good time by myself, though........:lol:

It is so funny, the hermit crab wakes up and gets active in the evenings. As soon as he moves, Lucky darts towards the cage to watch him. In the day time we keep the cage in a room with a closed door. We don't want Lucky knocking over the cage.

Soooooooo .. . ..very evident when things were . .. .um changing?

While I'm pretty sure I made the correct turn in Albuquerque, I may have made a wrong turn at Twenty Mile Stand. :o

Is the coffee from Oaxaca? It doesn't have those mushroom in it that Oaxaca is famous for, does it?

Mmmmmmm this med-dark roasted Oaxacan is purt'near the pinnacle of perfection.

Or is it the 'shrooms?

(Actually I'd never heard of Oaxacan shrooms until this thread. They grow wild near Tucson and back then also grew quite well in a certain bar's spare storeroom  )

Just have to tell you all that my son put Bacon on his Christmas Wish List!!! (He takes after his father.)

 if I could, my av'd be changed to a stocking w/ bacon poking out. Or flopping out. Can't decide whether raw or cooked would look funnier.

And I’m anaemic, however I’m also female and vegetarian. I had an iron trans a couple of years ago however it’s starting to dwindle and taking supplements doesn’t seem to work. I can’t seem to absorb it.
    • Suzi374
Hi, I attended a neurologist appt last Tuesday, which I nearly cancelled, due to ongoing numbness and tingling in toes to mid foot. One of the first things he asked was ‘are you celiac’. I’m not. He thought all reflexes were ok but at the last minute decided on nerve conduction tests which were low normal. He was a little confused as he felt they should be better and tried a new set of probs, all the time, giving me multiple shocks which were not enjoyable lol. Anyway, he’s now ordered tests for myeloma, and all the vitaminy things that so many of you mention on here, also tests looking for autoimmune responses. I already have Hashimotos. Interestingly, to me, but maybe someone out there can relate or knows more than i do, although I was a nurse, but ED not ‘weird symptoms’  nurse. Anyway back to the interesting thing, I took duramine in 2013 to lose weight which caused a massive panic attack when I stopped taking it and half my hair fell out. I only took it for a week but it was horrible and I regret it. It triggered ongoing panic attacks which are horrendous. So I feel like I’m a bit crazy. Then in 2020 I had this sudden onset of horrible pain when trying to eat a cinnamon roll. It continued and I lost around 20 kgs. I had two gastroscopes and a colonoscopy and they were all normal. I scored a barium swallow and CT angiogram. All normal. The pain subsided a little but I was left with reflux and an awful feeling that I couldn’t get air when I ate some foods. This was not anxiety.  The anxiety was separate and I still maintain this. This was something to do with eating. It was like the air was thick but I wasn’t short of breath. I just had the sensation I was, then it triggered anxiety. Anyway, I had other weird things- couldn’t bend knees to shave legs in shower lol. Knees felt stiff and swollen but they weren’t. Knee WOUld swell up randomly but mri showed minimal issues. A bit of a meniscus degeneration but insignificant. Then the buzzing sensations in my head, the feeling like someone was stabbing me with something sharp. So now, I pre empted his tests, although I don’t think I’m celiac because it should have come up on gastroscopy, I’ve gone off gluten. Since Tuesday last week so 9 days. Since then I don’t appear to be as constipated, I realised I got through today without a nap and I’m not tired, maybe it’s just today and not related but I get very tired normally and sleep straight after work often, I can bend my knees and shave my legs lol, the buzzing vibrating has gone from my head, I had to call and ambulance as my heart decided we were off on a run, but we weren’t running and I’ve been a bit twitchy at bed time when trying to sleep, reflux is improving, I did get the weird suffocating feeling a bit when eating today but not as bad normall. Tingling and numbness still present and I felt like it moved up my legs a bit today but I’m a bit jittery. So I don’t know if it’s celiac disease or a gluten intolerance but I think, and it may be wishful thinking because my symptoms do make life a bit challenging, but maybe I’m feeling better. I don’t feel as cloudy. My thinking feels crisper. Like there’s no buzzing and I’m not fighting to break through the cloudiness now. I hope so much that this may help me feel a bit better moving forward. It would be a miracle as I really have struggled to work and parent and keep the house clean and I’m always anxious and exhausted.  If you get this far, please tell me if you you can relate to any of the above. Oh and tonsils out 5 years ago but before that antibiotics multiple times a year, sometimes intramuscular because they were so bad.  Op was meant to take 30 mins, it took 1.5 hours due to size of them.
    • Peace lily
Im still not gaining weight I’m on a gluten free diet . And still having issues with constapation started priobiocs figured it would help been over two weeks . I guess it’s going to be a long road for me .
    • Smith-Ronald
Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.
    • Bayb
Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?
