:( I was making a white bread recipe from Betty Hagmans cookbook and I put the setting on wheatbread. Within 2 hours the bread rose above the top of my pan and was burning on the coils. So I grabed it and put it in the refrigerator. It is two days later and I'm starting to bake it again. Has my yeast run out and should I put new yeast in or is it gone to the dogs? I hope someone responds soon.

You probably need to start over. Don't worry, we have all had our moment with bread. Be sure that you are using the correct amount of dough for your size machine. If it is the usual upright kind of square loaf, you don't want more than about 2 1/2 cups of total dry ingredients and about 1 cup plus the eggs and oil of wet ingredients. There are some really good recipes out there if you continue to have poor luck.

I found Betty Hagman's bread's too runny and had the same problem with them over flowing the pan. I'd try more flour. Try using a ratio of two cups of water for 3 cups of flour. I don't know how this will work in a bread machine. When I make mine, I use two cups of flour and set the third cup aside. Then after the batter has risin, I add in the third cup of flour to stiffen the dough. Iv'e found that if I add all of the flour at once, the bread doesn't rise. It's heavy and icky.

good luck

PS I posted by bread recipe somewhere on this site in another topic where someone was asking about bread.

The thing to remember with Bette's bread recipes is very often they are for TWO 8 1/2 x 4 pans....not one pan, and not the 9x5 pan. I had the same problem until I read the instructions VERY carefully to see what I was doing wrong. Sigh. We've all been there and have our own "Bread Baking Battle Scars".

For some reason I just cannot get a good loaf of bread using a bread machine. I have to mix the ingredients with a heavy duty stand mixer then dump the dough in the pan and let it rise, just to the top of the pan, then bake. Never have a failure when I do it like that.

Yeast is short lived. I'd start all over again. Sorry.

    • Thanks for the information really appreciated
    • There are some enzymes you can take to lessen the gut symptoms, they help break it down quicker to get over it faster. Your antibodies will still flare up for the next few weeks and weak havoc with your immune system so it is mostly damage control. Go easy on your gut everyone is different in terms of easy to digest foods. I myself use coconut and konjac porridge the next couple days of with egg whites and nothing solid. Others swear by broths, soups, sweet potatoes, rice porridge, and slow cooked meats.
Imodium helps if you have D, if you get C like me up your magnesium, I use magnesium calm but rotate in more doctors best which is easier on the gut when glutened. Peptobismal many swear by. GasX can help also. Anise (not star anise) can help with bloat and gas also. Teas are wonderful, drink plenty of liquids regardless.

    • Hi all: I was diagnosed with Celiac in 2010 with blood testing and small bowel biopsy.  I have been following a gluten-free diet since and a lot of my symptoms and skin problems have gotten better.  However, I was at the beach and got bitten by flies and after biopsy of my legs and a whole Hurd of blood tests the diagnosed me with pyroderma gangrenosum (PD).  It is very painful and takes a long time to heal.  There is some research out there that does relate pyroderma gangrenosum to any inflammatory bowel disease.  I could only attach one photo but I hope this helps others to know PD is a big problem.
    • Yeah my family stopped doing gifts a few years ago when we had a grandparent on each side of the family die. After that no one meets up, no gifts, no one even does cards. I tried 2 years ago to give all my relatives gifts, hand written cards......None of them even said thanks. Next year I said I will not give out cards or gifts unless one of them send me something....and well I did not even get a card. Funny thing is my birthday falls on the 16th of Dec so nothing from any relatives for 2 years in the month of December hit me pretty hard. I know my disease caused me to burn bridges and be a bit more secluded but it was ridiculous to the point that the past 2 years I have been sending myself on vacation the same way, hotel, and location that my family used to spend on vacations when we were a family.

Sorry for the self pity thing, I was just pointing out that my extended family other then my parents (they still help me out and care) do not care about the holidays anymore. And I consider several members here, as messed up as it might be a "I care about your health and life" more so  then my actual aunts, uncles, and cousins. So I figured I might not be rich but if we had a secret santa type thing I could at least afford to send one person a gift.

Funny how this community is more family to me then the one I grew up in. I guess it has to do with relating to people here more, feeling of caring, and overall support.

I swear one of these days we do need to have some kind of meet up lol, would be crazy....oddly enough I can see certain members from our group being at each others throats, while others would be like arms around the shoulders singing carols....the mental image is quite amusing.

But yeah I do wish I could send everyone here a gift or card, but you know how the financial issues are. If I ever when the lottery I am gifting everyone lol.
