Hi All-

I'm purchasing gift cards from school fund-raiser and saw that Red Robin is one of the restaurants -- I remember seeing a post not too long ago that Red Robin does a good job with their gluten free menu.

Just wanted to check if anyone has recent experience - good or bad - as until today, I didn't know we had Red Robin here in San Diego :P

About 5 months ago i went and ate there and they were very nice and helpful, the waiter was so excited i was the first gluten free person hes ever served(wwhich made me a little nervous) but he brought out a nice salad minus the croutons and candied walnuts, oil and balsamic vinegar, and was very careful. He brought out the menu and was very eager to help. it was really nice. And i had no reactions.

I haven't been back since I posted. I did buy a card for my brother for helping me fix my daughter's computer. He has no food issues though. My favorite place for gluten-free dining is The Old Spaghetti Factory. Yeah, it's a limited menu and it's predictable. And a few times the food was really slow. Once they not only comped our meal but gave us a $40 gift certificate as well. But the last few times we dined there we had no problems and they've never messed up our order.

I have had several very good experiences with RR at the Escondido mall, most recently in November. The staff actually seems to care about allergy issues and I have never been treated like I am a burden, which is a nice change! It is one of the few places I feel safe eating at.

I've heard a lot of great things about Red Robin and their gluten free menu, but I went a few months ago and this is how my trip went:

Me: "Hi, could I please see your gluten free menu?"

Waitress: "Oooohh, hmmmm.....let me ask someone...I don't think we have any ga-lu-ten.."

Me: "I know you guys have a gluten free menu, so that'd be great if you could ask a manager."

Waitress: "oh I know we do too."

Me: "?"

After talking to a manager and 3 other workers who were amused by my diet, they brought me the Shellfish allergy menu. I eventually got the right menu and ended up ordering some chicken burger sans the bun, but was so nervous by the time it came that I couldn't even eat it.

I'll have to visit a different Red Robin because I've heard that they're usually pretty helpful. But you may want to call ahead, or find someplace else to eat if you're heading to Santa Maria, Ca!

      Thank you and I am aware that I should be eating a "normal" diet until tested it's kind of been trial and error for my diet or more like just ERROR! I about 1-3 bites a meal I'm to a point that 99 percent of the time I'm having trouble swallowing just about everything occasionally I find either something or a very small window of time that allows me to get very little of something! I am basically getting zero nutrition what so ever because I take one bite of the meal that I usually just slaved over just to end up tossing it when it's all said and done...did anyone else ever experience anything like this?  I am more then open to suggestions! It is taking a very extreme toll on me and my body forsure

      No! Do not start the gluten free diet until you know whether or not you will be having an endoscopy/biopsy to verify the blood antibody test results. Starting gluten free eating ahead of either form of diagnostic testing can invalidate the results. You don't want to allow the villous lining of the small bowel to experience healing ahead of testing by removing gluten.

      Thank you! What do you recommend in the next 7 weeks until I see my Doctor?  Just start my Gluten free diet?
