Protein: Gluten Free And Dairy Free And Soy Free?

I started a weight training program recently, and I'm trying to find a post-workout protein source (bars, powders, shakes) that doesn't have gluten, dairy, or soy in it. Other than keeping beef jerky in the car, what are my options? My preference is a bar, but I'll take any suggestions.

There are some nut based bars but overall you are unlikely to find too much on this front.

Hard boiled eggs, but you should keep them cold. A jar of peanut butter/sunflower seed butter and a spoon. The tiny cans/packets of tuna?

All of the powdered things I've tried have been awful beyond belief, and I don't even know which are gluten-free.

I ended up choosing one of the Nutiva Hemp products. The guy at whole foods said he thought it tasted the best. Most of the hemp and rice proteins just don't have as much protein per serving. I think the one I got has 11 grams. That's about half or one third of what some of the other powders have per serving.

So how much protein do I really need IMMEDIATELY after a work out? I can get enough protein during the day in general. I just can't get home and cook up some meat right after lifting.

If you are looking to put on lean mass, you actually need protein before AND after your work out. One of the easiest, cheapest and most convenience is the 100% all natural turkey breast from Costco. It comes in a 3 pack that tear apart for about $6.00. Each package is resealable. You can roll them up or eat the whole thing out of the package with a knife and fork! If you don't have a Costco, look to other retailers for preservative free lunch meats.

Also, almonds and walnuts are excellent sources of fiber, protein, and GOOD fat. Try to incorporate non-salted ones before and after a work out as well. Believe it or not, you NEED fat to build muscle.

Be VERY careful when purchasing beef jerky. Always read the ingredient statement as many of them contain soy sauce. And for hypersensitive folks like me, it's just enough to ruin a day.

Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way!

NOW Foods makes a pea protein powder. You can also make your own sunflower seed bars, etc. Ordinary garden peas are loaded with protein. How about a thermos of pea soup? Takes just minutes to make, using a blender. Lentils are a very good source of protein too, and the red ones make a good thick rich soup.

Oh yeah, I've been on this diet a while now. I know where the gluten is hiding. :)

      So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

      Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

      Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

      If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
