On July 31st, 2010, former president Bill Clinton's daughter Chelsea will be married in Rhinebeck, New York. According to the reports, she has a gluten "allergy", therefore there will be gluten free food for her at the wedding party. Well, I'd like to have a taste of the gluten-free cake, I'd guess that it's going to be the best gluten free cake in history. :rolleyes:

I suspect that she has Celiac, but they'd rather call it an allergy.

I doubt it would be the best gluten free cake in history, but it may be the most expensive gluten free cake in history. In fact, unless it was baked by a gluten free experienced baker, it could be sort of a not so great tasting cake- this is not something I would want to leave to a regular baker unless they were into taste testing the first batches. Imagine some of the dreadful recipes out there.

There's just something about large volume, plain white commercially made cake frosting that is all wrong, too. Ick. Didn't even like it back in the gluten eating days. I think they were using Crisco or something. Bleck. :blink:

Couldn't agree more - American wedding cake = blechh!!! No wonder the bride and groom smash it in each other's faces, gluten-free or not. :lol:

Chances are, if Chelsea Clinton has been gluten-free for any length of time, she's already had gluten-free cakes at her birthday and graduation parties, and she knows where to get the goods. Since we do not know how long it's been since her diagnosis, she may have been eating gluten free food when they lived in the White House, or possibly before that.

This wedding is going to cost up to five million dollars, and they are going to have everything done by the best of the best. She has probably already tasted samples of many gluten free wedding cakes, and chose the one she liked the best.

There are several wedding cake designers in New York and New Jersey who regularly bake gluten free cakes. There's a baker in Kingston, NY, which is not far from Rhinebeck, where the wedding is being held, called The Alternative Baker, that does gluten-free. Since Rhinebeck is only 80 miles from New York City, it wouldn't be any problem to obtain the cake from a NYC cake designer who does gluten-free cakes, such as Sylvia Weinstock Cake Ltd., on Church Street, or JACY Cakes, on West 82nd Street - and if none of those cakes are to her liking, they'll fly in a baker from anywhere in the world to make one.

With Chelsea Clinton having a "gluten allergy" there may be a lot more research done on Celiac. Hopefully a lot more people will start to think it may be the cause of why they are so sick and not getting better. I really believe it is a cause of so many illnesses that doctors are completely missing. Way too many people are suffering when they could easily be cured of their symptoms by being gluten free.

I sure hope Chelsea gets the message out about her "gluten allergy" and if she does have Celiac, she discloses that information in the near future. Having someone in the public eye with this issue can make all the difference for so many others.

    • Awww Jhern...I'm sorry you are feeling so bad.  (((((Hugs))))) Please ask your Dr for a full thyroid panel to get a complete picture.  That includes TSH, free T4, free T3, TPOAb and TgAb...the last 2 are antibodies.  With a TSH that high, I would feel terrible...tired and achy for sure.  Most people, including me, feel best with their TSH around 1.  Some labs show an outdated range of .5-4.5.  I would bet that you would benefit from some thyroid medication. The weight gain could be from healing and absorbing nutrients too. I hope you get some answers and start feeling better soon!
    • Yes, elevated intra-epithelial lymphocytosis is a possible indication of Celiac disease. That’s what my biopsy said. “Moderate to marked villous blunting with moderate to marked intra-epithelial lymphocytosis and marked chronic inflammation of lamina propia….characteristic for untreated celiac…” What we are finding out about these medicines is incredible. I knew that it could damage the kidneys, and can cause fluid retention. It’s good you posted here. Yes, usually the order is indeed blood tests first then biopsy, but oh well. My own thinking about autoimmunity is starting to evolve more and more to incorporate the ideas of Dr Terry Wahls, namely that there is little real difference between the various chronic diseases, that at bottom, it all comes down to cellular health. "Cells need certain nutrients in order to do their work, otherwise they begin to malfunction, even die." “When you look at chronic disease on a cellular and molecular level, we see it’s all the same disease – too much oxidative stress, inflammation, and nutrient deficiencies, toxins that are present. We see it in mental health, neurodegeneration, autoimmunity. It’s remarkably similar. Treat at the cellular level.” Dr Terry Wahls. Plumbago  
    • Magnesium and Calcium intake down combination with high sodium would lead to a form of edema where your body retains water in the joints and muscles.     • Did they check for candida? And what about your other levels? Keep a eye on your food diary, start rotating foods a bit more, see if you got a new intolerance. They seem to random come and go with me like REALLY random...last month was lettuce which is fine when I brought it back yesterday.  Anyway other thoughts, make sure your getting a bit of everything, I sometimes slip and do not get enough vitamin A, Vitamin K, lycopene, selenium, or zinc when I rotate nuts, seeds, and veggies sometimes reaching a combination that is lacking one mineral or vitamin.   I really do find those "Super Foods" that you need to up a bit for me it is oddly nutritional yeast, kale, cocoa nibs, coconut, pumpkin seeds seem to really boost how I feel.   Sometime a probiotic and enzymes are a huge help.

      Might try a low carb (no fruit, grains, sugars, starchy veggies) for a week or two and There is this Candidia FX stuff on sale on Amazon that worked wonders for mine.
    • I can definately identify with this. I half-laughingly refer to myself as an 'elder orphan'.   I can't afford anything like a secret santa but would love the opportunity to exchange holiday cards with others here.  It is comforting in a way to realize that I am not the only person who is isolated but kind of sad to know that there are others in the same boat. When I talk to folks with large close extened families who endlessly complain about them I just want to slap them sometimes.
