I'm putting aside the rice cakes, cuz of the accidental ingestion last weekend. I called quaker and, they told me there rice cakes are gluten free, plus I'm putting aside the kraft peanut butter. I'm just scared to eat anything and, fall back to step one..I'v just been on the diet for 4 weeks and, my third week was a wreck, and, now I'm back on the diareeha, I'v had for one week about twice daily all I'v done all week was call the 1-800 no's and, question all the companys, can we really trust the sources?? What can I eat, I'm tired and, depressed :( ..

I'm so scared to lose the weight I put on, I'm a very small man.. :(

I need some positive vibes..

Try eating very simply for at least a week or so. Eat only plain rice, veggies, fruit, meat (no deli meat) and perhaps Lundberg rice cereal for breakfast. Then graduate to adding one item back to your diet at a time and only every three or four days. I, too, had a difficult time with the diet at first. Now I've been on the diet for three years and am doing just fine with it, as long as I stay away from restaurants. Also, If you haven't eliminated dairy products, you must do so for at least 6 or 7 weeks. Many of us are very lactose intolerant until our villi begin to function again and this takes time. Then you can add a little dairy back to see if you can tolerate it. Don't get discouraged, this isn't easy but well worth the trouble in the long run to feel well again. It does take a lot of time and effort, so be patient. Shirley

I've been gluten-free for over 6 months and have never had an easy time with this diet, so I feel your pain. I had the diarrhea return after 5 months on the diet, and it freaked me out and depressed me. I was convinced something terrible was happening, like refractory sprue or worse. But, it stopped after about ten days, and things are normalizing again. Don't let this setback throw you too much, just eat very simply, go off all dairy, and see if you improve within 2 weeks. If not you can always follow up with your GI doc to see what, if anything, is going on, but most likely it was just accidental gluten ingestion. Strip your diet down to meat and rice and fresh vegetables, and anything else easy to digest. If things get bad you can always take an anti-diarrheal from over the counter. In the meantime change the diet a little and wait for good results!

don't forget that peanut butter may have bread crumbs in it if the the jar is shared with others in your family who are not gluten-free. (this also goes for butter and jellies). I have separate jars with a big "gluten-free only" mark on the top.

Which Quacker rice cakes did you have problems with?

I use the plain, salt free for sandwhiches and then eat the carmel corn ones for snacks, as well as a honey nut from a different brand I got in Omaha. Just hoping that the caramel onees aren't bad, since they haven't bothered me.

awww you guys are all loving friends..I'm inviting you all for fruits and, coffee..hehe

Yeah the doc told me to slack of the dairy..but I really love my morning cereals, they give reason to wake up happy. The doc told me it will subside within 10 days, I really have no cramps at all just a little dizzy..boh don't know why, but I still go out and, drive my car and, go shopping. I also realize all the junk people buy in supermarkets no one reads labels. The doc also told me that yogurt I can have and, i eat the yoplait brand with the fruits inside, I'm doing well with that one, I also called yoplait and, they are gluten free. How many of you can tolerate the artaficiel flavors..

I'm living with my mommy and, she doesn't eat peanut butter or, jams so there's no contamination there for me..

Whay peanut butter do you guys eat???? Kraft is gluten free because I called the company but, I still question the maltodextrine thats in there..I'd like to know what starch is put in there...

anyone.. B)

I'm not sure about the Kraft peanut butter, but I know tht JIF and Skippy are gluten-free...now if I could only get certain family members to take notice of the big black "gluten-free" on the lid and sides and stop leaving crumbs, I'd be all set.

I'm a real peanut butter eater and when I was diagnosed I was told not to eat regular peanut butter. I use Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter. The only ingredients are peanuts and salt. I didn't realize how much sugar was in regular peanut butter until I had eaten this for a while. Jif was always my favorite but it tastes so sweet since I've started eating Smucker's. It does have the peanut oil on the top so when it's opened it has to be mixed a bit. Actually I pour about half the oil off because I don't want all the added calories. Hope this is some help to you. I've noticed you've had several replies about peanut butter.

Good luck with your diet. It just takes time. I've been gluten free for three years and a couple of months ago I started having problems again. I'm sure it was something I'd been eating over a period of time that I didn't realize was not gluten free so I just started eliminating things as many have told you to do. It will work if you'll just be patient..............Judy :rolleyes:

The reason why I asked about the peanut butter is because it is very nutritional for us celiacs, a couple of rice cakes with peanut butter can make a great daily snack or morning breakfast with cereals gluten-free and, orange juice. I love to slice up a banana and, put some on a rice cake with peanut butter..

i decided to stick to the natural brand rice cakes..

Mario, have you ever tried almond butter? It makes a great alternative to peanut butter, but like the natural peanut butter, it has to be mixed when you open it, since the oil settles on the top, but once it is mixed well (I let my Kitchenaid do the mixing) and you refrigerate it it stays mixed for quite a long time. The same goes for the natural peanut butter. The natural ones are much healthier than the processes ones that are full od hydrogenated oils and sugar. Hang in their Mario. We all experience a little set back occasionally. I thought I was gluten-free this week, but now I am wondering if I got contaminated somewhere since I'm in the bathroon way too often today and last night I had awful gas pains and bloating. :( It just comes with the territory I guess. You might want to go easy on the yogurt for a while. Just to give your system a break while it is recovering. And I found that Blue Diamond Almond Breeze original flavor is a great milk alternative for cereal. It doesn't overpower the flavor of the cereal. By the way, what kind of cereal are you eating??

Whats up mariann/ first of have you got messenger for chatting..please say you do..

I'm having the corn pops biologique marked gluten free on them, they are the best I'v tried and, are very cheap 2.99$ a box, I eat two boxes a week..I have one yogurt in the morning, I just feel my stomach and, villi growling when I go to bed, starts around one in the morning and, around 3:00am i need to go and, its my first diareeha kind of watery and, also go back again around 6:00am, diareeha again and, then I'm fine the whole day, off course this is still due to the ingestion of gluten last weekend, which was my birthday, but it will subside as I'm keeping a stricked diet.

I was doing great the first three weeks, eating right I had a nice stool(formed), until last weekend---Poof!! Oh well things will get better

I'd really love to chat.. :)

Sorry, Mario. No messenger yet. I've never had it, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing...

As for the problems you are having. It could be the yogurt. Did you just recently start having it daily? You may want to give it up for about a week and see if it makes a difference. Of course this all could just be the effects of your accident last week, but the fact that is happens at the same time each day makes me think it is linked to something you eat at about the same time each day (like breakfast). If your breakfast is the same everyday, and you also have the "bathroom adventures" at the same time each day, then that might be an association worth investigating.

Anyhow, I hope you are doing better soon.

I slept a great night, not once did i go to the bathroom, altho i went this morning and, the stool is reforming, no growling inside all night, i did cut the rive cakes, i did'nt have any yesterday, i bought a new brand from the natural section at lowblaws market store, i haven't tried them yet..I will wait for a while, i also bought the natural peanut butter, i shall wait for that too..I have a celiac party April 15 everyone there will be celiacs and, i will have lots to say..hopefully i'll make a girlfriend.. :lol: you can download messenger, its free and, fun..

The celiac party is at the hilton near the airport in Montreal, it is 25$ cost and, we will all eat gluten free and, party and, dance..and, there is a marathon in May..

Peanut Butter> Talk about someone who's addicted to the stuff, lol *points to self* Since I hvae to give up Reese's (milk in the chocolate :(.), I just use the Skippy Honey Nut. It's yummy, it's safe, and I"m the only one in the house who uses that flavour!

Question at large> Today for dinner I had a ham slice, a glass of Cherry Juicy Juicy, and a small bowl of pers. Followed by the horrid pain in my abdomen and then it lodged in my back like my gallbladder used to do. This meal was wheat, glute, and dairy free...help? Mind you, I think my bowels are clean, but that's not the way I like to do it!

It may have been the ham. Not all are gluten-free. Or the nitrates if it has any(they are gluten-free, but bother some people). Or it could have been just too much fruit. For a while I was not able to digest fruit without the aid of digestive enzymes. Are you sure the juice was gluten-free? Amazingly enough not all juices are. I just can't believe some of the things they put gluten in. It is also possible that it was not a gluten reaction at all, but another food allergy or intolerance. I don't know what else to say, other than I hope you feel better soon. :(

    • I found out roughly 3 -4 months ago by accident that I am gluten sensitive.  One day I woke up and had joint pain in just about every joint on my left side. ie, elbow, wrist, knuckles, hip, knee, ankle and feet.  I was already having issues with intense foot pain that I mistook for plantar fasciitis.  Once I googled the symptoms, and realized ALL of several other things were happening at the same time as a result of gluten as well, I knew the answer.  I had been bloating in my belly for decades, and also having migraines for years,  but as of this year, I was looking VERY pregnant after each gluten episode. This was highly upsetting.   I am 52, and fairly active otherwise.  I had Migraines, depression, anxiety and now joint pain and peripheral neuropathy.  I'm on anxiety meds, and have hypothyroidism and diabetes 2.   Getting to the bottom of the problems with my symptoms finally, has been exhilarating and exhausting at the same time.  I cannot test for Celiac because my insurance won't pay for this since I am not anemic and have no family history of Celiac.  Since I have been eating gluten-free, I have been feeling better, besides the mistakes that produce symptoms within 30 min-an hour. When I make a mistake, my symptoms come on faster and faster, and also more intense.  For example, I ate at a restaurant thinking I was okay, and by the time I got home and exited the vehicle I looked 7 months Prego, and my feet felt like I was walking on razor blades. The last week or two has been the best for not making mistakes, and finally I can eat without feeling horrible. Here's the thing:  I still can't wrap my head around this!  I comb through the forum for answers and have learned so much!  I have an extremely supportive boyfriend.  I just am in so much denial about this.  It's emotional for me and some days I just can't handle it.  I know many people with full blown Celiac's disease have it way worse than I do, I just can't deal with this very easily.  Has anyone else been through the denial phase and emotional upset upon realizing the life changes that have to happen just to feel better when eating?  What did you do about it?
    • The basic idea is that you don't want to use something that might have gluten in/on it.  Pots and pans are easy to wash and get clean - a colander is not - all those little holes full of pasta goo.  A toaster with crumbs.  
    • Newbie mom of 15 yr old DD diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Just purchased brand new Farbwrware, nonstick items. Are these safe to use for her needs? Is it just scratched or oldish Teflon that's not suitable or all Teflon? These will only be used for gluten-free cooking. Trying to learn e as we go.
    • I highly recommend being tested for celiac disease before you go off gluten, if you haven't already done so.
    • Hi.  I'm new to this!  Please help me get started. I want to try..I mean DO...a gluten free life so that, hopefully, my health issues will go away. So, please help me.
