We went out to dinner tonight at a place where we dine a couple of times a month. They don't have a gluten-free menu but they can make a plain chicken breast for my daughter and she gets it on a taco salad minus the dairy. They don't put their salad in the big flour tortilla bowl. Instead it comes with chips.

So they we were, when all of a sudden her dad started putting his hands all over her glass! Why? Who knows. He was eating a burger on a bun.

She got really mad at him and told him to keep his wheaty hands off of her glass. She was diagnosed just over 7 years ago and he still doesn't get it. *sigh*

The last time I ate out I noticed the waiter handed out bread baskets then brought our water glasses.....handed the glass to me...with palm over the top of the glass....and fingertips touching where I would be drinking from. ARRRGH! I thought...can that put gluten in me? Paranoid of trace gluten...just not worth it to me. I didn't drink the water...

Sorry her dad did that! But she is right and I'm glad she spoke up.

Keep your wheaty hands off my glass!! Good for her!

Because I used to waitress, I am a very critical customer. And this is my pet peeve! I KNOW that a server's hands have been handling money and dirty napkins, as well as gluten filled products. If a server brings my drink that way, I politely point that out to them, then ask for a new drink. Even then, I always use a straw.

I'm trying to imagine why someone would do something like that. Was he trying to be funny? Good for her for standing up for herself!

I'm trying to imagine why someone would do something like that. Was he trying to be funny? Good for her for standing up for herself!

With him? Who knows. He does all sorts of things he shouldn't do or that make no sense.

Once when we were first married I went to his grandma's house for Christmas Eve dinner. His family is Italian and the tradition is that all the women gather together to make the dinner. I had offered to help but was told I could not. I did help prepare some things in advance at his parent's house. They do use specific recipes and his mom hovered over me to make sure I did things right. Alas she gave me the wrong peppers for stuffing. His dad grew them and later pickled them. He grew two kinds. Sweet and hot.

So there I was, cutting the ends off of these little round peppers and taking out the seeds like she told me to. But my hands were on fire! She wound up getting really mad at me. I was almost in tears. I ran out and stuck my hands in the snow trying to cool them. I know now that isn't the thing to do. And after she took over the job after getting really angry with me, she apologized. Now her hands were on fire.

I tried soaking my hands in milk and even putting butter on them and wiping it off. Nothing would take the burning away for two whole days.

So then we went to the family dinner. I drink diet soda and only diet soda. I can't stand regular soda never could. And now I am diabetic so it isn't even an option. I already knew that his family only ever had regular soda with their meals. So I brought my own can of diet soda.

His mom announced that she had used the wrong peppers for the stuffed peppers and to eat them with caution because they were really hot. Well... He wasn't listing to her. Took a ton of the peppers and stuffed his mouth with them. Then his mouth was on fire. And he had consumed all of his drink. There were two 2 liter containers of soda sitting right behind him. He could have easily refilled his glass. But instead, he took my can and drank it all. I was horrified. He didn't even ask! And there I was, left with nothing to drink. We were eating in the basement. There was no faucet down there. No water. Just the regular soda.

He does have ADHD. So that may be the reason why he does the sorts of things that he does. But it is greatly annoying!
