Who Makes Best Pizza Crust?

Ok attempting to make a pizza tonight ..one thats not horrible. Im gonna go out and buy mozzerella cheese and pepperoni pizza sauce, and of course...a crust. My local shop has some gluten free crusts and i googled them and it looks like my choices are Kinnickinnick, Glutino, and Amys. Which one do I choose?

I like the Kinnikinnick crusts. They are thicker than I would have liked in my gluten days and my son thinks they are a bit sweet but the texture is great and I really like them.

Don't get Amy's. I tried one of their frozen pizzas and it was downright nasty. I can't imagine the crust alone is any better.

Of those I would vote for the Kninnickinnick. Gluten Free Pantry makes a French Bread Mix that makes a great pizza dough if you have that locally. A bit more trouble to prepare than the premade but tastes great. It did take a bit for me to get used to having to spread it with a greased spatula but worth it.

If this is your first commercial gluten-free pizza crust, be prepared to be shocked at how dissimilar they are to what you are used to. The first time I tried a bought one I cried. No one told me how bad they would be. :( I still have the remaining crusts in the freezer.

Maybe pile it high with tons of delicious toppings! If it is an option, grilling the crust really makes a difference as opposed to baking it.

Amy's is horrible.

Udi's is passable.

Kinnickkinnick is ok.

The best choice IMO is either homemade or if you're in CO, there's a local frozen choice at Vitamin Cottage...I think it's from "Outside the Breadbox" bakery. Definitely not at all stores, sold in a 2 pack. Large and almost tastes like the real think (crust only, you build your own).

Premade - Joan's if you want a thick crust, Udi's if you want thin and cripsy. Chebe if you're making your own.

udi's is thin but definitely not crispy. If anyone knows how to crisp it up please tell me.

Homemade is my favorite. We have tried so many store bought crust. The only crust I use that is store bought is from Gluten Free Creations in Phoenix. It is a bakery that is totally gluten free. It is a thin crust. Many resturants in the Phoenix area use it as their gluten free crust. You can order online.

But we have been baking homemade pizza crust for years. My favorites are using the Jules Gluten Free flour and using her recipe on her site. Or, if you like a mix, using the King Arthur Gluten Free pizza mix. I do prebake both of my crust for about 10 minutes before topping them. We make a thick crust pizza with both of these recipes. They are so great. Last week my kids had their friends over for a movie night, and I made homemade pizzas out of the Jules gluten free flour and her recipe, (I love her flour, it is in mho, the best gluten free flour blend) and they all said it was one of the best pizzas they had ever had.

My favorite is definitely homemade...and it's also the recipe from Jules' blog. I do use her flour. In fact I sent a few bags to my son-in-law and the last time I talked with my daughter, she says her hubby's pizza is even better than the best gluten-free pizza they used to buy. And they live in Denver, which is a gluten-free haven.

    • Have you ever seen a chiropracter?  I have had issues like this a few times and it turned out to be a pinched nerve. I have a good chiro and he was able to help. I should also note that I do have some nerve damage from celiac that has lead to a loss of feeling and motor signals in my right leg. That was helped with seeing a physical therapist. The numbness remains but he was able to help me retrain muscles so I can walk normally now. That was a constant thing though not intermittent.
    • In addition to checking  products for gluten-free issues, the particular vitamin that supports hair and nails is called biotin. It is included in most multivitamin s, multi b complex vitamins, but if some people do get enough from diet they may need to add a single biotin supplement. B vitamins are  water soluble so they are not stored by the body. When I get glutened and cc I lose hair, after my  challenge my hair suffered for quite sometime vs my gluten-free years. It takes times the cells are competing for limited nutrients in the commonly malabsorped nutrient celiac body. Good luck
    • Hi Jenny. How long have you been gluten free? Have you potentially come across CC ate away from home, a processed  food that is new to you?  I get neuropathy issues among many other issues. For me it is my left upper arm goes numb aka falls asleep like sensation and my big toes both feet. Typically this is when I am actively consuming gluten before  went gluten-free and at/after my challenge. As gluten-free if I get cc by gluten I go numb , if  get cc by corn another intolerance I get shooting nerve firing. So yes celiac and food intolerance s can cause this in some people. It is best to stick to whole foods for now and keep a food diary to suss out any gluten cc or other intolerance. Edit - also check vitamin b12, other b' s and magnesium also are important. Do you get enough? B vitamins are water soluble so if you have absorption issues and don't consume enough and they are depleted this also should be on your radar. Sublingual b12 maybe necessary so t enters the blood stream vs. Pill /gi route. Lastly some require b12 shots if the prior options do not work.
    • Hi guys. It's me Jenny 😊I feel like I post every other day with problems or questions. Well I'm here again. I have this problem with my left leg (in particular) at night going numb it wakes me up in the middle of me sleeping and is difficult to fall back to sleep. It's not my bed mattress, it's not the location on how I sleep. I don't know what it is. It only happens at night. The neurologist said I was sleeping on my spine wrong because I sometimes end up on my back wrong! Happens just as much on my side. Don't know if this is celiacs related damage or something else my quality of sleep sucks! Any one experience this? Also I have a mysterious pain that started in my neck atleast 2 years ago got use to it but over the summer I noticed there was pain (unbearable) on the shoulder generating down to the wrist on one side. Any one know what this could be. My doctor diagnosed arthrits but I'm only 30
    • I have been gluten free for about 7 months. I had a check with my gastroenterologist at 4 months post endoscopy, and asked him to check my thyroid, iron, vit D and Vitamin B12 levels. They told me all were fine (which I found surprising, but I take vitamins). Shortly after that, my hair started to fall out like crazy. At first I thought it might be due to an accidental glutening in mid Sept, but it is still falling out. I finally did a hair count after yesterdays shower - 919 strands!  Thank goodness I (had) thick hair, but its getting noticeable. Coincidentally, yesterday I noticed bruising on my arms & don't remember hitting anything, but I remember getting bumped by someone. Could my iron change that fast? I'm looking for answers. Yes I use gluten free shampoo & product, but I dont know if my hairdressers shampoo is gluten-free. I only go there once a month though. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
