Was This Glutened?

Not getting any reponses on the "symtoms" board so I will ask over here. My dd doesn't have intestinal symptoms at all. But last night, she left youth group at church early saying she felt like she was going to throw up. We left and she cried for 15 min. with it and never threw up or went to the bathroom. Then it went away as fast as it came on. She was perfectly fine after that and all night. This doesn't sound like most of your glutened symptoms. THey usually are bad and last longer than 15 min. We had to eat away from home for lunch and dinner but she took her entire meal with her. She didn't eat any other food. Was this gluten or a childhood tummy ache, gas? Just wondering if she is starting to have symptoms. She goes back to the doctor Tuesday so I need to know whether to mention this or is it not consistant at all with glutening!

Honestly and in my opinion, it doesn't matter how gluten affect anyone else. Everybody is different. However I have acute symptoms after I eat gluten, nausea and drowsiness that goes away quickly but I will still be tired and then the morning after is usually bad again. I stay bloated for days and almost feel like I have moments when I react to it again and again until its out of my system. I think if it concerns you, mention it. A doctor won't be able to decipher without all the possibilities on the table. I saw that you said she ate her own meals. Did she take her own silverware? Could cross contamination be an issue in your kitchen?

She did take her own silverware but she drank out of the cup at the restaurant without a straw. I only ordered her a drink. That's all I can think of. But she was literally dancing outside on the porch about 25 minutes after it started. It was just weird. I do have a gluten dd (9) in the house becuase they are retesting her this week to see if she has celiac also. So I had to keep her on gluten. But we are very careful and for 6 months so good ....until yesterday. I guess I could drive myself crazy with this one.

Yeah that's a tough one but typical stomach bugs don't come and go that fast. I also jabent experienced gas that caused extreme nausea either.

Could maybe have been her gallbladder acting up? This can come on suddenly and pass suddenly. Can cause nausea and gas type pains. Just be aware of watching for reactions to greasy or fatty foods.

Many Celiacs have gallbladder issues. They seem to go hand in hand? I was told I needed mine removed, but I'm hanging onto it in the hopes it will heal now that I'm gluten-free. It still acts up though. :(

    • If you are not getting any cooperation from your healthcare providers you can also just try a gluten free diet for a few weeks/months and see if symptoms improve. You would need to educate yourself on where gluten is found, especially how it is hidden in prepared foods like canned soups and condiments. Because your pain could be caused by other things, some of which could be serious, you still need to stay engaged with the medical community. And do realize that if you go with a gluten free diet it would render some celiac disease diagnostic tests invalid. If you were having testing done after going gluten free you would need to start eating gluten again before the testing was done.

    • Umm Spicely is one of the few I trust, and they tested negative after some asshat came here claiming gluten on them last time. I wasted my money and time Nima Testing my spicely organic spices. I use them as a gluten free chef, and baker.

      I also have UC and I can tell you, anything but the smallest amounts of garlic, onions, or hot peppers will set off my UC. It HATES garlic and onions and I have to use them just slightly, spicy peppers it is picky some days it is alright with paprika in small amounts same with ancho, and tiny pinches of Cayenne other days even cumin might make it angery. It is a really picky disease, and you sort of have to stick to easy herbs on bad days for seasoning to appease the colon gods. PS Marshmallow Root, Aloe Vera inner filet juice, and Slippery Elm can be great so soothing the beast. I am doing the family turkey this year with poultry seasoning, and butter flavored coconut oil, avoiding garlic, only using a 1/4 sweet onion and a celery butt on the inside, and for flavor injecting it with liquid smoke and putting bacon over it. My keto dressing this year with my UC also has the onion omitted, just using poultry herbs and a bit of celery sauteed and pulsed ina food processor.

      I had to remove grains from my diet completely, fruits, sugars, carbs all caused my UC to flare up so they all had to go. I changed to a ketogenic diet.
    • I agree with the advice given.  You could also ask for the rest of the celiac panel since you were barely positive on the DGP IGG.  This will help determine if the slight positive was a fluke.  Make sure that you have been eating gluten for at least 8 to 12 weeks prior to the blood test.  If you had been gluten free, the tests would not be accurate (invalid).  All celiac disease testing requires you to be on a full gluten diet.   I personally tested positive on only the DGP IgA, but my result was not borderline like yours.   I am sorry that your result is not clear.  ☹️
    • We never eat at LAX.  We do bring our own food or purchase gluten-free snacks while traveling through various airports.  Often you can find fresh fruit options.  If going international, do not rely on any airline to remember to load a gluten-free meal. You may end up starving!
