I wasn't sure where to post this. I have been off gluten for about 2 years. I still have GI issues. I was hospitalized in 1/12 and 6/12 for GI issues. Here are some recent tests.

My CT scan: "thickening of the distal tranverse colon...descending colon and rectum... consistent with colitis." It also shows a lot of stool burden. There was also thickening seen on a 2007 CT scan.

My colonoscopy: the descending colon mucosa is "erythematous, hemorrhagic, ulcerated, and to show loss of vascular markings suggestive of stercoral ulcers due to constipation." Four biopsies were taken. There also was inflammation seen on a 2007 colonoscopy.

My path report.

Descending colon, biopsy:

- Colonic mucosa with edema and hemorrhage

- No evidence of ischemic injury, inflammatory bowel disease or active inflammation.

I also have elevated SED Rate and Lactoferrin.

I don't think any of this is related to Celiac. But, what would these results indicate? The inpatient doctors said I had "end stage constipation." Has anyone heard of this? They said to take Miralax as a bowel regimen. Something must be causing my constipation/GI issues.

I'm no doctor but a quick consult with Dr. G(oogle) indicates that these results might be associated with an inflammatory bowel disease...ulcerative colitis or crohns. Good luck with everything and I hope you get answers and relief.

I'm confused by the report. Elevated Lactoferrin does point to inflammation and inflammatory bowel disease, and the SED rate is also an idicator of inflammation. Have they tested you for bacterial overgrowth?

Stercoral ulcers (I had to Google that one!) ARE a result of chronic constipation. And they can be dangerous, so you need to take them seriously.

What is your diet like? Do you eat much in the way of fruits and vegetables?

Are you certain you are not getting gluten in your diet anywhere? Have they done any follow-up blood tests to see if you have any celiac antibodies?

Are you active, these ulcers seem to happen more in sedentary people.

Than you for responding. I have not been tested for bacterial overgrowth. The doctors said the high lactoferrin and sed rate are "nonspecific." I don't know why they ordered them then.

They said the ulcers will heal on their own. The only thing the doctors said was to take Miralax. I wasn't given any other treatment.

I'm some what active and eat fruits and veggies. I have food allergies, so I stay away from those foods. I don't think I am getting glutened. I try to be careful.

I had a celic panel in 2011. The EMA was not ran. Here are the results:

Anti-Gliadin Antibodies

IgG 3 and IgA 1

ranges: 0-19 negative, 20-30 weak positive, >30 moderate to strong positive

Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody IgA <2

ranges: 1-3 negative, 4-10 weak positive, >10 positive

Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody IgG <2

ranges: 0-5 negative, 6-9 weak positive, >9 positive

I have HLA DQ2, DQ8, DR4, and DR7.

    • Sounds like food poisoning. Is this the same or similar reaction you get to CC? Did any of your family have it too? Who cooked it? Did you ask them what they used to prepare it? Was it cooked on a grill alone or in the husk? What else was cooked at the same time?
    • That sounds like food poisoning to me, since (1) corn has no gluten in it and (2) you have been eating corn fine your whole life. The only other alternative would have been if they used a coating or spices with gluten in it, but it seems unlikely to me for some reason.  Hope you're feeling better.   
    • I agree with what others said. You should do the research prior to posting about opening a business based on gluten free products or foods.  
    • My cycle is sensitive to gluten. As my conditioned worsened misdiagnosed after the birth of my second child I suspected my thyroid was off. A primary care Dr tested it per my request and I was determined normal results.  Even as gluten-free now if I get CC my period gets knocked offline and I sense my thyroid and adrenals are not functioning at full throttle but ironically I never show that per tests. I'm subinical - To assist my body back to my homestatsis and restore order to my period I find eating foods and taking supplements with focus on B vitamins, and supporting my adrenals help.  Warning my experience is once knock offline when my period cycle "fires" back on it is strong like when I was young and Newly menstruating. My body fires back on and is mad at the glutening. as cycling lady said your daughter may need to meet with nutritionist or have her levels tested.  My opinion it will come back but when the body is focused  on healing sometimes the period is dumped a bit, and with absorption issues the typical nutrients are going to healing so one needs to assure they have enough nutrients for other systems function like menstral and adrenal. good luck I'm optimistic it will return perhaps her body is prioritizing nutrients to healing. good luck
    • I myself run a gluten small gluten free bakery and do gluten free chef work. I looked at getting certified myself as a business. You can have your company certified by GFCO if you wish. I would suggest only buying from suppliers also certified by them. I myself only buy nut based flours from certain companies the specialize in gluten free only products. My bakery is a grain free bakery also. If you looking at getting your business certified it is very expensive. The cheapest route is a bit over 1k last time I contacted GFCO. For multiple lines, and online sales your looking at much more. They have to send in a agent to look over your set up, talk to you about CC, suppliers, packaging etc. it is not cheap either. You have to buy all new equipment, you can not used anything pre owned. Here are some links to look over. I can help set you up with some supply companies and ingredients suppliers if you need anything. Just tell me what your looking for and what your planning. I myself wish one day to open a gluten and grain free food truck and have been striving on fundraising for it for about a year now.
